COTY Speaks!

Unfortunately due to the strike, we were forced to cancel the Poulon Weedeater 'Cusian of the Year Gala Ball, robbing you of seeing your favorite Syracuse celebrities walk the orange carpet (There's Wayne Mahar! Look honey...Nancy Cantor in Chanel! Rowr...Doppler The Cat is on the prowl!).

However, in the spirit of the award, Greg Robinson was kind enough to send a prepared statement regarding his victory as 2007 'Cusian of the Year.

"I just want to start by saying I'm happy to be here. I really am. My wife is happy to be here. My cousins are happy to be here. My cat Admiral Von Friskytail is happy to be here. They really are."

This is an important award, I think we're all aware of that. You have to have done good things to win this award and to do good things you have to have competed. You have to be a competitor. And I think I've done that."

Do I wish I was winning this award because the football team went 10-2 and beat Florida in the Capital One Bowl instead of cause we were a complete disappointment and my status as head coach overshadowed the entire season? I do wish I was
winning this award because the football team went 10-2 and beat Florida in the Capital One Bowl instead of cause we were a complete disappointment and my status as head coach overshadowed the entire season. I know this."

I saw a lot of good things out there on the field this year. I saw a lot of positives. I didn't see the negatives. I don't like to look at negatives. It's negative. And I'm positive. Now I don't make every decision perfectly. I'm an imperfect decisioner. I decide and sometimes it's not perfect. That's the gosh darn truth."

Did I think about winning the 'Cusian of the Year award during the season? I really didn't concern myself with all of that. I don’t think about it. It was brought up to me. It made me laugh. I didn't expect it. I don’t think so. I just went out and fought the fight. I really did. My wife was out in the community, supporting me and voting for me every day. So was DOCTOR Gross, so his secretary tells me. They really were. And you know what? It happened."

I want to thank the voters. I really do. That's why we're out there fightin'. I really believe that next year's team is gonna be even better. What is better? I don't know. But we'll be it."

Thanks Greg. By the way, I went to
WSTM's website to grab a photo of Doppler the cat and found him to be missing from the team altogether. Where did he go? Please, oh God please, don't tell me what I don't want to hear... This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you, Doppler...
