This Year, We Go To Eleven

The journey to becoming the first team in history with eleven Big East conference wins to get snubbed from the NCAA tournament begins soon. But before it can, we must heap lofty expectations of all of those involved.

It's Big East Media Day! Get excited, will ya? The Big East Preseason Coaches poll (which will always live in our hearts as part of the cause for this rant) was released today. Georgetown and Louisville were picked as co-favorites to win the conference. The Orange was picked fifth.

2007-08 Preseason Coaches' Poll

T1. Georgetown (8) 217

T1. Louisville (8) 217

3. Marquette 191
4. Pittsburgh 170
5. Syracuse 153

6. Connecticut 149
7. Villanova 143
8. Providence 141

9. Notre Dame 122

10. West Virginia 112

11. DePaul 79

12. Cincinnati 62

13. Seton Hall 56

14. St. John's 52

15. Rutgers 32

16. USF 23

It wasn't so much the team pick that's worth noting however, its the individual accolades for some of the Orange that are noteworthy. Eric Devendorf got a nod for the All-Big East team and freshmen Jonny Flynn and Donte Green were voted co-rookies of the year, which is a very nice way of saying "If you two didn't have enough pressure on yourselves already, think of this as no less than the expectation that you are both Carmelo-esque and Syracuse will win eight National Titles while you are in their care."
