This Week On "Who Wants To Lead The Big East?"

Seems like every team in the conference has had a shot at leading the Big East at some point. I like it...but as we get closer and closer to the end of the season I feel a little uneasy. All this UConn business...it's cute and all, but we really don't want a team that needed a shady last-second call to beat Temple to represent us in a major bowl, do we? Still, they reek of "destiny" after beating South Florida and taking their bandwagon from them. The good news is that even if Rutgers or Cincy doesn't do something about this, you know West Virginia will.

But the more important question...how fucked is Syracuse?

Team:
Pittsburgh
Record: 3-5 (1-2)
Last Week:
Lost to Louisville 17-24
This Week: At Syracuse
How Fucked Are We?: About as little as we're gonna see the rest of the way. The Wannstadt Pressbox Theorom has been shattered (much like his ACL) so there's hope for us yet. It's a battle to see who's the coach on the hottest seat in the Big East. If Syracuse beats Pitt, you can bet that will be the last straw for Panther faithful. If Pitt beats Syracuse, well, we're kinda used to it by now.

Team:
#20 South Florida
Record:
6-2 (1-2)
Last Week: Lost to UConn 15-22
This Week: Vs. Cincinnati
How Fucked Are We?: College football is a fickle mistress. One week your looking ahead to the national title game, the next you're just hoping to impress the fine folks at the Meineke Car Care Bowl. The Bulls passed the torch of Big East Team Du Jour off to the Huskies, a mantle they somewhat took from Cincy a few weeks earlier. The Bulls need this win to right their ship and save some face, Jim Leavitt's career options hang in the balance.

Team:
#16 UConn
Record: 7-1 (3-0)
Last Week:
Defeated South Florida 22-15
This Week: Vs. Rutgers
How Fucked Are We?: UConn is starting to resemble Jason or Freddy. Every time you think you've killed them, they find a way to not only come back, but kill you in the process. Just ask Temple, Louisville and now South Florida. Certainly Syracuse stands no chance against an evil so pure.

Team:
Cincinnati
Record:
6-2 (1-2)
Last Week: Bye
This Week: At South Florida
How Fucked Are We?: Cincy and South Florida must be seeing UConn highlights and wondering where the hell things went wrong so quickly? A huge game for both programs in terms of getting off the schnide and getting the attention of bowls. The Bearcats have no easy task ahead...beat USF, UConn and West Virginia. Maybe that last game against us will end up being a bowl clincher after all.
