Still Waiting For The Otis Hill Cafetorium & Snackery

In November, Carmelo Anthony pledged $3 million to Syracuse. Afraid that most of it would go towards Patrick Shadle's food services card, Carmelo came back to campus yesterday to make sure it went to the right place.

His $3 million was the lead gift for the construction of the new $19 million venue named the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center. The facility will house two basketball courts, training facilities, locker rooms and coaches' offices for both the men's and women's basketball programs and will be located on the north end of Manley Field House.

Since this new facility makes the main gym in Manley fairly obsolete, SU plans to renovating the 46-year-old facility and turning it into a football/lacrosse practice area with FieldTurf covering the interior. The question then becomes, will the women's team start playing all of their home games in the Dome? Guess so.

Anthony was joined by DOCTOR Daryl Gross, Jim Boeheim, women's basketball coach Quentin Hillsman (who does seem a little, um,
little, no?) and trustee Joyce Hergenhan in the groundbreaking ceremony. It's expected the facility will take about a year and a half to complete.

Once completed, the university will begin construction on its next alumni-related venture, a research building called the Forth-Ovcina-Celuck Center For The Tall And Pasty.
