Just flew in from West Palm Beach and boy are my arms tired. From lifting weights, that is. Oh, I can barely lift my right arm 'cause I did so many. I don't know if you heard me counting. I did over a thousand...
Spent a lovely five days with the grandparents in the land of early bird specials, candy drawers and poolside banter about things that used to cost a nickel. Although the highlight of the trip was
the stayover in Key West.
If you've never been, let me paint a picture for you. Imagine you're back on spring break, only you never leave. And while other people come and go and the places never change, you keep getting older. And that Omega Mu sister you woke up next to on the beach and don't remember hooking up with is still there and she's getting older too. And you keep listening to the same Garth Brooks songs every day only the girl singing it is actually a dude...and still might possibly be Garth Brooks. And Jimmy Buffett is considered a legend. Yep, vertitable paradise.
Oh, and yes, they're as pissed off as you've heard they are in Miami about this Ted Ginn Jr. business. Honestly though...does anyone really expect Brady Quinn to be anything better than David Carr with whispier hair? To paraphrase Chris Rock, "I'm not saying the Dolphins should've passed over Brady Quinn...but I undastand."
So what did I miss? In the world of Syracuse athletics...not much it seems. A couple Orange got drafted or signed after the draft but nothing to get excited about.
The lacrosse team clinched the worst season for the program in 25 years, losing 9-7 to UMass. It's also the first season with a losing record for the first time since 1975. It's official, this was the worst year to be a student at Syracuse from a sports perspective since the early 80's.
Sadly, Orange Nation lost a member over the wekeend. Former SU football player Kevin Mitchell died at the way-too-young age of 37. Mitchell played linebacker and nose guard for the Orange between 1990-93. He was selected in the second round of the 1994 draft by the San Francisco 49ers and won a Super Bowl ring with them. Mitchell also spent time in New Orleans and Washington. Cause of death is still TBD.
