Inevitably, every sports drama has a scene where the older and wiser mentor challenges the main character to reach for the stars and live their dream and stop worrying about all the racism/hardship/hatred/injuries/fear. We can be sure that The Express contains that scene. God willing, the filmmakers have just cast the man to deliver it.
Charles S. Dutton has joined the cast of the Ernie Davis biopic as Davis' grandfather, Willie Davis. Dutton has many credits to his name but for many of us, he is and always will be Fortune, the barking field manager in Rudy who gives our young hero a serious gut-check just in time to accomplish his goals.
Aunjanue Ellis (Ray, Freedomland) has also joined the cast as Ernie's mother.
