Orange...Prepare For Glory!

I'll be honest, I've just been dying to work in a 300 reference and that's the best I could do. So we held on to win our opening NIT game
79-73 over South Alabama thanks to Devendorf's 34-point performance. The Jaguars stormed back from a double-digit deficit in the final minute with a flurry of threes but the Orange sealed the deal with some clutch Andy Rautins' free throws.

So it seems that SU
is embracing NIT Madness, or at least making the most of it, apparently breaking the NIT attendance record last night. Up next is San Diego State who beat Missouri State 74-70 last night. That game will be Monday in the Dome.

I thought it might be some Chicken Soup for the Orange Fan Soul if we take a moment to stop worrying about what-could-have-been this season and start looking at what's ahead of us next season:

Incoming recruit Jonny Flynn, already a member of the McDonald’s all-American team and the Nike Hoop Summit American team, will be named 2007 Mr. New York State Basketball at the state championships in Glens Falls on Friday. Flynn averaged 26.7 points per game and he is "looking forward to getting to Syracuse, which is where I’m switching my focus to now." Flynn will take the pressure off of Devendorf at the point and comes from the same school as Paul Harris so there's a good connection already in place.

Donte Green from Baltimore and a member of Team Melo in AAU is rated as the #3 small forward in the country and the #10 prospect overall at Green is expected to be an offensive star in the Orange's system.

And if you think Flynn and Harris are going to have chemistry, wait til you meet guard Antonio Jardine and forward/center Rick Jackson, currently teammates on Philadelphia's Neumann-Goretti High School team. The two stars, both ranked among the top 50 players in the nation depending on who you ask, refused to go to college separately and Syracuse was the first school that offered a package deal.

So here's rough idea of whose going to be playing next year:

Eric Devendorf (Jr)

Jonny Flynn (Fr)

Andy Rautins (Jr)

Antonio Jardine (Fr)

Josh Wright (Sr)

Paul Harris (So)
Donte Green (Fr)

Devin Brennan-McBride (So)
Arinze Onuaku (Jr)

Rick Jackson (Fr)

We're going to be young, small and fast and for at least the next two years. We have all the makings of a solid nucleus. Giddy up.
