The AP and ESPN have reported that Connecticut freshman 7-foot-3-inch center Hasheem Thabeet has been declared eligible by the NCAA to play this season, the school announced Wednesday. Thabeet had been waiting on a ruling from the NCAA on whether he met some core curriculum requirements.
See, Hasheem is Tanzanian and was educated in both Tanzania and in the United States. His only formal school in the US was at Cyprus Community Christian School in Houston, where one would expect to find such a school.
Thabeet is currently enrolled expected to be UConn's starting center and is also fully expected to be kept as far as as humanly possible from A.J. Price.
