Best game: Syracuse's 37-34 win over Northwestern was an old-fashioned shootout that came down to a dramatic last-second field goal. That it was the first win for new coach Doug Marrone in a raucous Carrier Dome made it even sweeter for Orange fans.
"Greg was not a closer. Hed say 'Greg I need you out here to land this kid' and Greg would respond with 'Get him on campus' "
"Coach Robinson told his staff to pass on recruiting (New Jersey product) Knowshon Moreno because he was 'not Syracuse quality'... It was a killer to watch this past draft and see all the kids SU didnt go after. "
"Doug is the right guy for that job, but its gonna be a rough year"
Billboards are up in town promoting the 2009 Syracuse University football team and season tickets. I have a question - couldn't y'all get a better picture of head coach Doug Marrone to go with the project?"
When I go into a home, it is not as a coach from some other school trying to sell. I am not selling. Syracuse University does not have to be sold. In my opinion it is the greatest university in the United States of America."
I've always believed, and this was taught to me by Coach (Dick) MacPherson, that every year you have to earn the right for a starting position at Syracuse University. Coach Mac used to always ask me, 'Is Doug Marrone the starting right tackle at Syracuse University?" And I'd go, "Yes, I am." And he'd say, "No, the Syracuse University starting right tackle is Doug Marrone." The point he was trying to make was that it was something I needed to earn every year, and that's no different than any position on the team. As far as the quarterback position, it's not any different. The person we can win with will play, whether it's a fifth-year senior, a freshman or a sophomore or a junior. We're going to play the players we can with."
It’s a little hard of an adjustment with no facial hair, just a mustache, collared shirts, but it’s all for the best."
Doug Maroney"
So people asked me, 'How do you find time to prepare for this interview?' And I said, 'Prepare for what?' All I had to do was answer everything from my heart. I've thought about it my whole life. I hoped that maybe one day I'd be in this position, that maybe one day I would have accomplished enough to be able to be considered for that job."
