Brandon Triche is joining Tobacco Road too!
Less than 12 hours after being bypassed by all of the NBA franchises in the 2013 Draft, the Syracuse Orange basketball program's all-time winningest player is a member of the Charlotte Bobcat organization, Syracuse.com's Mike Waters is reporting.
Despite a disappointing Thursday night, which featured back-court mate Michael Carter-Williams being selected No. 11 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers, Triche did not need to wait long to find an opportunity to prove himself. He will now get a chance to showcase his skills in the NBA's summer league, which is held in Las Vegas, July 12-22.
Now, Triche may not get a chance with Bobcats right away, as they have Kemba Walker, Ben Gordan, Gerald Henderson and Ramon Sessions. But as the SB Nation blog Rufus On Fire pointed out three days ago, the Bobcats maybe looking for a backup point guard in the near future.
Over this offseason, the Bobcats will be looking at many players to pick up out of free agency. The frontcourt will take precedence, most likely, but what the Bobcats do with guard Gerald Henderson (restricted free agent) could decide the moves they make in the backcourt.
Another thing to look at: next year, backup point guard Ramon Sessions is an unrestricted free agent, meaning that the Bobcats have an opportunity this summer to sign a willing point guard to a multi-year deal to fill the spot.
For those curious, James Southerland has yet to find a home. Expect that to end sometime today or Saturday.
