Darius Kelly could step into Shamarko Thomas' vacant safety spot this season. - Chris McGrath
Safety Darius Kelly is already in the 'Cuse preparing for spring ball.
Darius Kelly is one of six early enrollees this year, and one of the ones most likely to make an immediate impact as the Orange look to replace the production of Shamarko Thomas.
Stat Me: This season Kelly recorded 74 tackles (53 solo), three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one interception and broke up three passes.
Seein' Stars: Scout - 3*, Rivals - 2*, 247 - 3*, ESPN - 3*
Who's Crying?: Marshall. Kelly is not Marshall.
Money Quote: Michael Cohen wrote a great piece about Kelly'd football journey. Kelly discussed his decision to choose Syracuse over Marshall...
"If I went to Marshall, I could be the man and one of the few people doing it...But if I go to Syracuse, where there are a bunch of people who are trying to do it and are doing the right thing, I can do it with a team and not by myself. That definitely helped my decision."
Which SU Coach Gets a Bonus?: Outgoing DB coach Donnie Henderson was instrumental in bringing Kelly east.
Fun Fact: Scout lists Kelly as having a 4.35 40-yard dash. I have no clue if that's accurate, but I'm going to pretend it is.
Highlights: Some HS film here. As a side note, Zach Allen's highlight tape popped up on the sidebar for me and now I have a sadz.
