Whatever happened to the SOB awards?
I think this is the second year in a row we didn't do them. I'd really like to see them come back because there were some really funny pics and moments in the selections that only a blogger could come up with. And if no one wants to do them would it be okay if I tried to start them up with Nunesers nominating and voting on their favorites? How would you feel about that?

Dion / Fab - where will they go? success/failure level.....
Know we are 6 weeks away from the draft and it is difficult to assess where guys will go but what do you guys think would be a successful spot for each guy? Here is my take - For me Dion needs to be a top 15 pick otherwise given the landscape for the 2013 class it seems like he probably should of stayed in school - started for the Orange went for 18 or so a night and became a top 10 or top 5 pick....of course there is always the injury risk and staying too long but if he does coast into the lower end of the 1st round it would seem to be a iffy decision but end of day anywhere in the 1st round is guaranteed money. Plus if he does slide it gives my Celtics a chance at snagging/stealing him...they need a scorer off the bench.....he would be a nice add -
As for Melo to me anywhere in the 1st round is a victory and a headache for a team - no question he can help a team on the boards and blocking shots but his offense is ..... a challenge. Wish him well but I smell Hasheem Thabeet here. and Oh by the way I am still mad about him not being there for the tournament and would like an honest explanation for it - They are at least in the finals if he is there - they win the Ohio State game and beat Kansas....that is what I want to believe anyway.....So LET the Debate begin
Women's Lacrosse BET preview SU vs. Georgetown
The field is tightening up on the women's lacrosse side of the NCAA tournament. What impact does the Big East Tournament have on all of this?
Syracuse faces Georgetown in the no.1 vs. 4 matchup tomorrow night in the Dome (follows the Notre Dame-Loyola game). This might be a tighter matchup than most people think. SU ran into some problems with Loyola (a 13-12 win) Friday night in what was the Orange's biggest challenge in some time. You would have to go back to the first half against Rutgers on April 7th (SU only led 7-6 at the half) to see the last time SU in a tight situation. Between Rutgers and Loyola, SU posted wins of 22-4 over no. 16 Dartmouth, 22-11 over no. 21 Georgetown, 16-9 over no. 13 Cornell, 16-9 over Louisville and 22-5 over Cincinnati (plus an 18-3 win over Villanova on Sunday).
Conversely, Georgetown has lost three out of its last four games following a 19-11 victory over Louisville also on April 7. Including the Syracuse loss, Georgetown lost in 2OT to no. 7 Notre Dame, 19-10 to no. 3 Maryland and earned the number four spot in the BET with a 9-7 come from behind win over Rutgers on Saturday.
What's at Stake: Regardless of what happens in the BET, the Orange will be in the NCAAs. With a current RPI ranking of no. 2 and a 15-2 overall record (plus big wins over Maryland and Florida earlier in the year), there's no way that Syracuse isn't making it. For them, it's a question of NCAA Tournament seeding. If the Orange win both games, they will most likely end up as the no. 2 seed. Losing either game in the BET will probably set SU back to no. 3 or 4.
Georgetown's position is much more fragile. The Hoyas are currently 9-7 overall and have an RPI ranking of 21. While they have an outside chance at an at-large bid, but will need some help in other conference tournaments for them to get this. Right now, Duke, Virginia and North Carolina have definite locks on three of the eight at large spots with the loser of Florida-Northwestern picking up another. With Penn St., Notre Dame and Loyola being definite possibilities (the latter two have wins over Georgetown this year) on the inside track, it could come down to the Ivy League as to whether the Hoyas sneak in. Cornell, Dartmouth and Penn all have legitimate shots in the Ivy League tournament and if the Big Red does not win the championship game, they could get the last at-large bid.
Perversely, even if the Hoyas beat SU, it will not guarantee them an NCAA spot as it would kick the Orange into the at-large category. At this point, the best chance for Georgetown to get into the NCAAs is to get the automatic qualifier.
Chances: The Orange have the home field advantage as the BET is being played in the Dome this year. SU has lost only one game this year in the Dome and that was to no. 1 Northwestern in OT. Syracuse is packed with talent on the offensive end and are solid in the midfield and on defense. Perhaps the most frightening thing for other teams is that the Orange will be bringing back practically everyone next year (there are a few holes defensively they'll have to fill). As shown in the regular season game, SU has the ability to totally dominate the Hoyas.
Georgetown has its back to the wall, no question about it. It's pretty much do or die for them and you can expect the Hoyas to throw everything they have at the Orange. Forget about the 22-11 demolition earlier in the year; this will be a tighter game for certain. Can the Hoyas win it all? Absolutely. Georgetown lost to Loyola 15-14 in OT and came very close to knocking off the Irish.
Pick: Georgetown has a talented squad and should not be overlooked. These two teams have had an intense rivalry since the Big East has started (The Hoyas have dominated the early years, but the Orange have won most of the games lately). SU also has had a tendency this year to start slow in games but can make up for it by scoring in bunches. The 8pm starting time means that this could become a trap game for the Orange as they'll know who their opponent is for the final by game time. SU needs to stay focused and if they can do this, they should pick up the win. Lapses of focus almost cost them the Loyola game (the Greyhounds scored three goals in the last 75 seconds of the first half to make it an 8-7 game and then scored the last five goals of the game). Can the Hoyas shake off their slump and surprise the Orange? Although I do think this will be a closer game than several weeks ago, I still feel that SU has too much firepower. My pick is the Orange by 5.
Video
Recent SU graduate Tyler Gildin has made another funny video, this time about being a Jets/Islanders/Mets fan. Link to the video is below....support an alum!

Since I need to fill the word count, let me take this time to show my support for Doug Marrone. The guy is doing the right things to make this football team be competitive and I think we all need to support him and fill up the dome this year.

DO articles on Nancy Cantor
The Daily Orange has been interviewing faculty of all levels on campus for the past six months (they apparently went to the Pat Forde School of Journalism) and a large segment of them feel any dialogue with the administration is a one way street, and any dissent against her has become a risky thing to do. Another thing is the lack of understanding on her initiatives (I'll admit, I've never heard of most of her programs, and the ones I have heard of I don't know what they do). Hell, entire departments still have no idea WTF "Scholarship in Action" is. The Nancellor and her supporters are pinning the criticism on the good ole boys network and asking if a male chancellor would be put under the same scrutiny.
An interesting story, and it's creating quite the buzz on campus today. I'm rather indifferent to this for the most part but I'm curious about some of the opinions on here.

Seems that Sweet Lou is slated to take over for Michael Hay at RT. From Facebook (after the jump)
Over-Analyzing Syracuse Orange Football Part One: Uni Watch
Now that the Syracuse Orange Spring Game has been dissected an analyzed, it is time for the over analysis. This science was perfected this past fall with ESPN's coverage of Tim Tebow and the goal is simple: talk so much about a subject that everyone gets sick of it and then proceed to keep talking until you force the public to like what you're pushing.
Being a student a Syracuse, I have been taught that the best way to learn is to apply learned theories into practice (or maybe that was just for Spanish...) and thus it is time for the over-analysis of the Syracuse 2012-13 Football team. Part one even has a group participation activity!
The first step to over-analyzing any college football team is their jersey. Thanks to Nike and Oregon, college football (and slowly basketball) have become testing grounds for new alternate jerseys. Gone are the days of classic throwbacks and enter are...these.
As we all know, Syracuse is reppin' Nike #SWAG and well... the results speak for themselves. While I am assuming Nike will have learned their lesson and banned "platinum" from the 'Cuse color palette, it's only a matter of time (or more likely wins) until the Pro Combat jersey comes to the Orange.
Now overall, I like what Nike does with the Pro Combat jersey. Yes I am exactly the audience they are reaching for, they have turned some pretty "blah" uniforms into legitimate football looking armor. Sean held a contest for a redesign of the football unis last season (if you clicked the link, sorry I had to do it, actually entry here) and made a good point that in the ACC has a bunch of teams that can pull off the Orange look but somehow we can't.
So what are we to make of all of this? It's time for a new football look. And if Doug Marrone won't come up with a great idea for an alternate than it is up to us to do it...and I have some ideas.
SU Women's Lacrosse and the Big East Tournament situation
With wins over Louisville (16-9) and Cincinnati (22-5) this weekend, SU has officially locked up a berth in the Big East Tournament in two weeks. SU now faces Loyola, Md. on Friday and finishes the regular season against Villanova on Sunday. Loyola and SU are both 6-0 in the Big East, so Friday's game will decide who wins the regular season title and gets the no.1 spot in the BET (which, btw, is at the Dome this year).
Notre Dame, with their 7-6 2OT win over Georgetown on Saturday, will have the no. 3 spot regardless of what happens next weekend. Rutgers and Georgetown will face each other next weekend in a big game since this will decide who takes the no. 4 spot in the Tournament (both teams are 4-3 right now).
So, if SU beats Loyola, they get the no. 1 spot and will play either Rutgers or Georgetown in the semifinal. If they lose, they will play Notre Dame.
W2W4: Syracuse Football Offense Summer Edition
I can't believe I'm writing this now, but the reality is that this past Spring Game was probably the last time Orange fans will get to see Doug Marrone's squad in action until real football begins. From the players reactions, closed practices seem to be helping a team with a chip on their shoulders and mountain to climb in 2012-13.
With that in mind, I am assuming that the Orange are off into summer ball with a clearer idea of what their identity and team will be like. After talking to some people close to the team, many injured players are better off than we think and some or worse off, meaning summer ball will have an interesting dynamic. Here are the biggest things to watchout for after a casual observer's time at the Dome.
1) Marcus Sales and Jeremiah Kobena's development: Alec Lemon could miss the beginning of the season and that leaves Jeremiah Kobena and Sales as Nassib's primary targets. Sales looked good and apparently has good chemistry with Nassib even after being out of football for a year. Kobena also looked really good and has more speed than Sales. He is on the shorter side so don't look for any jump balls his way. However, if these two can effectively run their routes and create space like they did in the Spring Game, Nassib will survive without Lemon and hopefully thrive in his return.
2) Offensive line shuffle: This one is going to be interesting. Justin Pugh is out and could be out for awhile. Rob Trudo will be ready to go in the summer. Nassib was running all over the backfield on designed roll outs and improvised plays, but was no where near as accurate as he is when standing in the pocket. Last season, the line took a lot of heat for the pressure on Nassib and lack of running lanes and it's safe to say the same will happen this year. The Orange need solid line play at least in the ground game so that Orange have the threat of a balanced offense. I wish I had some idea on the candidates besides Macky MacPherson at center but the line always get banged up in camp and there's a 99% chance that whoever I say now will be out for 2012 so I'm staying quiet.
Should Donovan Mcnabb be in the NFL HOF?
