To the gamblers out there that follow Syracuse basketball, and like its odds to make a significant run in March, now may be your time to act.
According to TopBet, the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team are 100-1 odds to win the 2017 national title.
After last year’s improbable Final Four run, the Orange opened up the 2016-17 season as 80-1 odds to win the title.
Syracuse started the season 4-0 and nationally ranked, before dropping back-to-back games to South Carolina and Wisconsin, and ultimately finishing non-conference play with an 8-5 record.
According to TopBet, undefeated Gonzaga has the best odds to win the title at 8-1. After the Zags comes Villanova (8.5-1), North Carolina (9-1) and Duke (10-1).
Syracuse has a make-or-break four-game stretch coming up that includes two games against Georgia Tech, a home game against Duke and a road game with Louisville.
If the Orange can make a run and sneak its way into the NCAA Tournament, it’s hard to say another Final Four run is out of the question. Last year’s team debunked the theory that any SU team is “dead.”
As we saw last year, one player can pick up the slack of others and help carry a team through the NCAA Tournament. Then-freshman Malachi Richardson did it last year, and the Orange has plenty of guys who could this year, too.
Even with these odds, Sports Books believe the Orange will make the Tournament, however there is a long way to go. Four regular season games remaining plus the ACC Tournament should tell you that anything can happen.
