It's hard to get too worked up over something like a a rating of all 65 Power Five conference head football coaches before the season begins and many of them haven't even actually coached a game for their current school yet.
But...let's see if we can try.
The new Syracuse Orange head man, Dino Babers, checks in at No. 45 overall on CBS Sports' arbitrary list. To be fair, that's not bad for a guy who is, firstly, coaching Syracuse, and secondly, brand new.
Babers has won at Eastern Illinois, and he's won at Bowling Green. He just hasn't stayed at a school for longer than two seasons, but the idea of his offense playing in a domed stadium has plenty of us thinking big things for the Syracuse offense.
Just in case you're curious, Scott Shafer checked in at No. 59 on this same list last season.
Babers brings a lot of head coaching experience, a lot of winning experience, and a very clear gameplan for how he's going to use the Carrier Dome and Syracuse's strength's to his advantage, so no surprise to see that people have a decent opinion of him before he's even stepped onto Ernie Davis Legends Field.
Babers is 11th on the list out of 14 ACC coaches with Dave Doeren (North Carolina State), Steve Addazio (Boston College) and Dave Clawson (Wake Forest) trailing him. Pitt's Pat Narduzzi is slightly ahead at No. 40 while Virginia Tech newbie Justin Fuente is at No. 38.
Ultimately, this is all meaningless, but at least lets you know where things stand with some media folks.
