The Syracuse Orange field hockey team had themselves a pretty good 2014 season. Ange Bradley's crew made it all the way to the ACC Title game as well as the National Championship game and finished with an 18-6 record, earning them SU Women's Team of the Year at the Cuse Awards.
If 2015 is going to see a repeat of that success, it's off to a good start.
The No. 4 Orange kicked off a busy weekend with a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 6 Stanford on Friday. Scoreless for most of the contest, sophomore Roos Weers put SU up 1-0 with eight minutes left. Victory was snatched away in the final minutes as the Cardinal equalized the score and sent the game to overtime. There, Emma Lamison found the back of the net to end the game and secure the win with just over one minute left in OT. SU outshot Stanford 22-5 and owned a 16-1 advantage on corners.
No rest for the weary as the Orange continued their West Coast swing with a 4-0 victory over UC-Davis. SU once again dominated on the shot differential (15-4), though this time the scoring started early. Weers scored her second goal of the season just a few minutes in and she was followed by freshman Emma Tufts and All-ACC selections Emma Russell and Alyssa Manley. It was an easy day for goalie Jess Jecko, who only needed to turn away one shot all day.
Syracuse concludes its three-game road swing at Pacific University on Monday at 3 p.m. eastern. You'll actually be able to watch the game live online here. Follow SU Field Hockey on Twitter for updates here.
