The shakeup in the Syracuse athletic department won't affect Quentin Hillsman's job status.
Two weeks after Jim Boeheim announced his upcoming retirement, Hillsman said that he wasn't going anywhere.
Hillsman and the university made good on that promise on Friday. The women's basketball coach has agreed to a contract extension, a spokesman with SU Athletics confirmed.
The terms of the agreement were not made public.
"I love being here. This is a great place for me," Hillsman said earlier this month. "My entire family is here. My mom is here and my in-laws are here so we're very comfortable and I like Syracuse University. I love being here and that's my plan -- to be here and to grow this program."
Syracuse has had eight consecutive winning seasons under Hillsman, who won the BIG EAST Coach of the Year award in 2008.
"I think we're going in the right direction," Hillsman said. "That's the most important thing for us. We're going in the right direction and we're hanging banners for the tournament."
Syracuse set a program record by reaching the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row. The Orange went 22-10 this season -- Hillsman's ninth year at Syracuse -- even though Brittney Sykes wasn't healthy for most of it. SU beat Nebraska in the opening round of the tournament and then lost to top-seeded South Carolina in the Round of 32.
Next season, the Orange will have a veteran-heavy lineup. Only two players are graduating this year and all five starters are coming back. Hillsman said it could be the best team he's had at Syracuse.
Said Hillsman, "We're in a good spot right now. I feel good about our program and I feel good about our team."
