Football's Back! Thursday Night Open Thread

The moment we've been waiting for since early January is finally here! Technically it arrived last night as Georgia State beat Abilene Christian on a walk-off field goal, but you knew this already. Here's what we're looking at:

  • Texas A&M has already started the post-Manziel era and leads South Carolina in Columbia 7-0 with about 5 to go in the first. It's airing on SEC Network, but none of you receive this channel.
  • The only #goacc team in action is Wake Forest, as they try to avenge last year's loss to Louisiana-Monroe on the road. Game kicks at 7 on ESPNU.
  • Last year's #1 team starts their defense of their title by carrying the same ranking into this season, as Minnesota hosts Eastern Illinois at 7. No word on whether BTN announcers have bothered to look at the names on EIU's roster.
  • If you want to look ahead to Syracuse's next opponent, Central Michigan hosts the Fighting Terrell Owens of Tennessee-Chattanooga at 7 on ESPN3. After hosting Villanova, the Orange will visit the Chippewas in seven weeks.
  • Boise State starts the post-Chris Petersen era by taking on their only Power 5 opponent of the year, taking on Ole Miss in the Georgia Dome at 8 on ESPN. If Boise wants any shot at crashing the playoff party, they likely need to win resoundingly tonight and hope Ole Miss surprises the SEC West.
  • If you want to see what life would have been like if we didn't accept the ACC's invitation, Tulane visits Tulsa at 8 on CBS Sports Network.
  • For my fellow tennis fans, today has been the best day of US Open action so far. Andy Murray had some troubles in the first round, he faces Matthias Bachinger tonight.
  • Some crappy Pre-Season NFL flag tests are now sans starters.
