The Announcement of Which Walk-Ons Will Now Receive Scholarships has become an annual college football training camp tradition on par with The Week of Training at a Military Facility and The Player You Were Really Looking Forward To Seeing Tearing A Muscle Horribly. So let's find out which Syracuse Orange players' parents are super-duper excited right about now...
Syracuse redshirt senior tight end Clay Cleveland, graduate student cornerback Joey Nassib and redshirt senior running back Greg Tobias were awarded scholarships on Thursday, SU head coach Scott Shafer said in a text message.
"Unselfish hard work pays off," Shafer said.
I guess Cleveland and Nassib were on a year-by-year scholarship basis because the former walk-ons were awarded scholarships last season as well. Cleveland is likely to see some action at the TE set or possibly out of the backfield in his old FB slot. Nassib is currently recovering from an injury but whose experience will be needed on the depth chart and in the locker room.
As for Tobias, he's currently listed sixth on the RB depth chart, but, hey, you never know...
Mazel Tov, fellas.
