Current P5 Coaches' Records Against Top 25 Opponents

Courtesy of the Wall Street Journal (and my lurking over at Pacific Takes). One year in, Shafer is 0-3, but I don't think anyone is going to claim a better coach would have won those three games. Still too early to make a call on what this list says about our #hardnosed leader. Interesting to note is that Doug Marrone's tenure going 4-5 would put him 20th on this list in terms of win percentage behind the following: Nick Saban, Guz Malzahn, Jimbo Fisher, Mark Richt, Bobby Petrino, Les Miles, Brian Kelly, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Mark Helfrich (only one year in with Chip Kelly's players), Steve Spurrier, David Shaw (14-4!), Gary Patterson, Charlie Strong, Kevin Sumlin, Jim Mora, Frank Beamer, Chris Peterson and Dana Holgerson. Not too shabby of a list. His record in big games is even more impressive when you consider three of those losses came in his first season coaching with Gerg's players plus Greg Paulus.
