With an earlier than hoped for exit from the NCAA Tournament, the time has come for the unrealistic and ridiculous cries from angry and unrealistic fans. The same kind of fan that called Gerry "overrated", complains that the 2-3 zone is a thing of the past, and calls for the man that built this program to leave it. These fans always exist; the nay sayers, the negative Nancies, the pessimists. But it is in this period where we have no more games to drown out the noise that we hear them the most.
An end like this to a season like this hurts, there's no avoiding that. We're all bleeding and there's nothing we can do but watch and wonder what could have been. But the image of CJ Fair sitting at his locker with a towel over his head is not what defines this season. What defines this season is Trevor Cooney igniting the Dome and reminding Villanova why they won't miss the Loud House. It is the epic matchup with Coach K that ushered in the largest on campus crowd in college basketball history. It was Tyler Ennis' half court heave to upend rival Pitt on the road. This season is defined by a team that refused to quit and fought every minute of every game. Nobody thought they had a shot to be #1, and maybe they shouldn't have, but they got there. This team had its flaws, but they always left it all out on the court and as a fan there is nothing more that you can ask for.
As an Orange we have been spoiled the last five seasons with dominant teams. Teams have been so good that the fan base has expected a Final Four run every year. But this is not realistic, this is not what defines this team or this season. It was each dogfight of a game that this team was able to pull out. The explosion of the Dome with new excitement in a new conference. It was the success that this team experienced on the court. No, we don't have a date this weekend with UConn, but 28 wins is pretty good. This team was pretty damn good. It doesn't make a tournament loss any easier to swallow but it shouldn't be a Doomsday for the guy everyone was praising when we were sitting at 25-0.
We may be bleeding, but Cuse Nation is bleeding orange.
