So after the BC game I was a bit ticked off, but figured, hey, they team was bound to lose sooner or later. It was a regular season loss (to an admittedly inferior opponent, record-wise) that could be viewed as simply an off night. Keep in mind it was an off night that led to a one-possession loss with a chance to win it in regulation and tie it at the end of OT. I was ticked, but I got over it.
Tonight's game vs. Duke REALLY PISSED ME OFF. The block on Gbinije and the charge on Fair should have been reversed. If the charge is called on Parker, the score is closer, and who even knows if Fair HAS to drive in the late situation. What upset me most, and I think what upset everybody (even Dickie V.) was that the refs made themselves part of the game by making what at worst should have been a no-call. In real time the guy's feet were moving ever so slightly, and Fair was under control. Deciding a game with a whistle when two top 5 teams are playing is disgusting.
Yet, here I am after midnight amazingly calm. Why?
The stench of the BC loss is gone, and SU essentially went to Duke and played them even. If the charge isn't called, the game is tied at worst. If Fair makes the shot, Duke still has 10 seconds to win. At home. I'd like the D's chances, but really who knows what would have happened?
My point is SU went 25-0, and has lost the past two games by a combined 9 points (or 5 if you'd prefer to pretend Jimmy's tirade didn't happen).
The team is still RIGHT THERE and the ACC regular season no. 1 seed is still theirs to win. We all knew losses were going to happen. I think what's ticked us off the most is the first was because the team didn't show up and the second was because the team was hosed.
Personally, I think this game helps in the long run. At least I hope so.
