My first memory of Pitt was going to a football game in the early 80's as a kid. Everyone was wearing these blue and yellow buttons that read "Charcoal Pitt." I still vividly remember the look of disappointment on my father's face when I asked why there were so many Pitt fans. At some point along the way since then Pitt decided to call themselves Pittsburgh and changed their colors. I prefer the old blue and yellow Pitt. They also decided to suck at football and be good at basketball. I'm split on those changes.

Big East School Pittsburgh reminds me of: Pitt More or less the same school under a different name and slight color variation (as mentioned above).
Player I think of when I think of Pittsburgh: Vonteego Cummings
Vonteego was a 3x All-Big East Selection (never 1st team) and scored 22 pts in one of the more painful regular season losses I can remember on March 2, 1997. We came into the game at 18-10 (9-8), and squarely on the bubble after starting the season out at #12 (thanks for nothing Winfred Walton). Pitt wasn't ranked, and a win on Otis Hill senior night would have moved us to 19-10, 10-8. Given that no 10 win Big East school had ever missed the tourney at that point, it should have also locked up an NCAA berth. Instead Jason Cippola's 3 from the corner in the final seconds was off line and Pitt walked out with a 65-63 win. I hated Vonteego almost as much as NIT seasons.
