I say Shafer sits both quarterbacks down and tells them the situation. One half. Earn the job. Essentially start from scratch. There’s not much else to do. Playing Allen clearly hasn’t been working and playing Hunt may not either.
When you combine the new coaching staff and a first-time starting quarterback, you’d be thrilled (and maybe shocked) if the Orange started off 2-0. There are going to be some problems early on. But fans would sleep better after these two losses if SU stuck to its principles and gave it all it has. Shafer shouldn’t go away from his style. He’s got to stay the course and be consistent, or else this whole "hardnosed" identity will be perceived as empty promises.
"The defense has been very solid, and probably our strongest part of the field," McIntyre said. "We’re even a little banged up there, but Oyvind (Alseth) has been great for us as a freshman, and Skylar, Chris and Jordan have been their usual selves."

If you don't pay attention to anything that has happened in Robinson's career since 2004, this hire makes sense. Bring in the successful old guy to replace the young guy over his head, right? But we have paid attention to Robinson's career since then. We know that in four years as Syracuse's head coach, he won 10 games and never really fielded even a decent defense.
How bout some footage of the 1977 Syracuse - Penn State game? (If you told me that was 1957, I'd believe you).
