The SS Shafer was launched again on SUathletics.com today.
Love this guy the more I hear him speak, a few expletives thrown in highlight some funny answers.
The main things that sticks out:
Young players learning to prioritize school work so at the end of the week your only focus is the football task.
It is your whole team against their whole team, coaches against coaches, trainers against trainers, players against players.
Great story about when he was a coach at Indiana playing ND and how Holtz yelled at him and it completely turned his focus from WOW look at this place, to lets kick some ass. That "Shit" does not matter.
Simplifying the game so the players speed is increased, a 4.5 player is a 4.5 player when his head does't get in front of his feet.
As we have thought and has been reported, Ashton needs things simplified at this point, pretty much the reason why he can't be the QB right now. But coach loves the things he can do on the field. And we may see him running the show in the future once it all sinks in?
The thing that stuck out the most, the love of his son and his players, you can tell he cares about everything that goes on in their life. He just doesn't say it, he exudes it!
