From watching his game vs Team USA on ESPNU yesterday, I came away with some impressions of his game. Namely, his ability to take his man off the dribble, get to the basket and finish with contact. He was doing this against college players and top line soon to be freshman in college. This is a very rare trait for a pg on the college or pro level. Lot's of pg's can take their man off the dribble and drive to the basket, but they can't finish, and Tyler can. This will open up things for everyone on offense. The looks Syracuse get's defensively will be different this year, in a positive way.
This kid has leadership abilities. With Tyler sitting out the last couple of minutes of the 1st half due to foul trouble, Team Canada, went into a bit of a funk. They couldn't buy a shot, and enthusiasm was missing from the team. Ennis starts the 2nd half and Team Canada is energized, they are blocking shots, running up and down the floor, and had great energy on defense. He really gives them an emotional lift.
I'm really looking forward to this season for a number of reasons, but one of them is because I think Ennis will be better then advertised. His physical skills are there, as is with a lot of college players. But the mental part of the game is what a lot of freshman in particular lack. I think this kid has the mental part down, and will be a key contributor from day one.
