Orange Soccer: Catching up with the Clubs

There was a bit of interest on my last post on the Men's Soccer program up on the hill. I figured I'd try it again. From what I can gather, it looks like most of the roster is busy as all get out with various club and national responsibilities. Guess I'll do a little introduction of the newcomers and provide some links for the returners.

Let's start it off with the newcomers:

Fresh Faces:

Benjamin (Benji) Lopez (F):

It seems like he goes by Benji, according to the U18 roster, so we're going with that from now on. Lopez is noted as the prize get of the 2013 recruiting class. He's currently a member of the Real Salt Lake Academy in Arizona and was called into the November camp for the U18 National Team last year and continues to play with them. All promising facts that point to a real quality get for Coach McIntyre. As of May he was playing for the U18's and has seen play as a sub in many, if not all (hard to dig up U18 information) of their recent Lisbon International Tournament.

Emmanual Kollie (F):

Kollie is currently playing for the Ocean City Nor'Easters of the United Soccer Leagues - Premier Development League (USL-PDL, it's a mouthful). Hailing from Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, he took the JuCo route his freshman year and has since decided to don the Orange. The Nor'Easters are currently sitting atop the MidAtlantic Conference, though none of the websites related to them seem to be updated or capable of loading...

Alex Halis (F):

Seems Halis is playing with Sigma FC up in Canada along with Chris Nanco, another newcomer. Halis has netted three for the Ontario Soccer League outfit's A2 side. Though an incoming freshman, he's been in the fold and on campus since January.

Chris Nanco (M):

Nanco is playing with Sigma FC's B2 side. It seems as though Nanco has in the past been invited to train with Liverpool FC. That's a pretty solid honor for the youngster and probably a good sign moving forward. The speedster should give a change of pace off the bench for the Orange. He was also a member of the Canadian U17 team.

Alex Bono (GK):

Returning starter at keeper is working on a solid season with Reading United in Pennsylvania. He's got three clean sheets on the year while splitting time with John McCarthy, the team's other keeper. He's also teammates with former SU midfielder Jordan Vale.

Chris Makowski (D) and Matt Stith (GK):

The duo are playing for Jersey Express of the USP-PDL, Makowski is consistently seeing field time and should be tuning up for the current season.

Tony Asante (F), Nick Perea (M), Tyler Hilliard (D), Jordan Murrell (D) and Stefanos Stamoulacatos (M):

This group is currently logging minutes for the Ocean City Nor'Easters along with Kollie. Asante was, as of 7/9/13, tied for the team lead in goals and is playing a large role in the team's success. Murrell, Hilliard and Perea are all logging significant minutes.

Andrew Coughlin (GK) and Ben Ramin (F):

Coughlin and Ramin, high school teammates, college teammates, club teammates... Both are playing for Buffalo FC of the NPSL (National Premier Soccer League) with solid contributions coming from either. Coughlin is on the board with three clean sheets over the summer and Ramin has netted two.

Grant Chong (F):

Chong is playing with NPSL division leader Detroit City FC and has netted two in five to this point.

I was attempting to glean a little more info out for the summer club seasons, but lower division club coverage is only so in-depth. Ah well, once they're back on the hill, things may get a little easier. Thanks to Syracuse Athletics for a bit of the update I was able to deliver.
