"In isolation situations -- a big part of Syracuse's offense -- opponents know he is a dominant left-handed driver. In fact, when he drives right near the basket, he likes to spin back to his dominant hand. On the perimeter, he drives right to a step-back jump shot. It's fairly predictable."
The Syracuse-Georgia Tech matchup remains the same, but on the whole, I would argue that these are more compelling matchups than the 2013 schedule. The top two teams in the Atlantic are paired with the top two from the Coastal, plus interesting matchups at the bottom between Maryland and Duke in the Terps final year in the conference and BC-Virginia (which may only sound appealing to me ... still. And TOB-ing).
"I have never known Michael to be content with his play," Hart said. "The kid is special, he comes from a special family and will do special things. With his work ethic, the sky is the limit."
"Syracuse goes after those kids all the time. Landing them is another matter, and they haven’t landed K.J. yet either," Scout.com’s Brian Dohn said. "But I think it would be a huge coup if Syracuse got him."
Syracuse has amassed 362 points this season, which rank seventh in the country. In addition, SU is fourth in draw controls (14.65 per game) and eighth in scoring margin (6.35) and winning percentage (.824). The Orange's defense has held its opponents to less than 10 goals in nine consecutive games and ranks 16th in the country with an 8.65 goals-against average.
Junior forward C.J. Fair has reached to the semifinals in The Hoops Manifesto NCAA Dunk of the Year Tournament.
"It's never easy," Sales said. "I've been through a lot playing football in college. It's the mindset you gotta have. I've been through a lot. I'm just ready to go through the gauntlet. If I gotta start from the bottom, that's what I'll do."
For the second time in five days, the Orange will play a Notre Dame team it just beat by six goals.
Gary Gait would not be the head coach of the Syracuse women's lacrosse team if not for his daughter Taylor. Shortly after Taylor was born, Maryland offered him an assistant coaching job with their women's team. He jumped at the opportunity.
To this day, I am incredibly proud of the work our paper did in the immediate aftermath of the news breaking, even if some relationships were damaged in the process. That first week — the live interviews I did on CNN and HLN (plus the one I slept through), the eight-page "Fine Fired" special section, the cans and cans of soda since I don’t drink coffee — could never be forgotten.
