The 2013 Syracuse Orange Blogger (S.O.B.) Awards are here. Honoring the players, coaches, fans and moments from the 2012-2013 Syracuse Orange basketball season, we here at TNIAAM are splitting the process between ourselves and you, the dear readers.
The category up for debate at the moment is Best Game of the Season. And there's actually quite a few to choose from...
Syracuse 91 - Arkansas 82: It might not seem like much but over time, this win proved rather significant. Syracuse was the only team to beat the Razorbacks at home and Boeheim later said "Arkansas is probably the toughest place I've taken a team to." The game was also James Southerland's coming out party as he scored 35, most of which was from three-point range, and kick-started a Sixth Man of the Year campaign (that ultimately became moot).
Syracuse 70 - Louisville 68: The Cardinals were No. 1 in the nation at the time and the win seemed to proof that this Syracuse team was going places (even though we then learned it wasn't true...and then it was).
Syracuse 58 - Georgetown 55 (OT): Sweet vengeance! The Orange avenged two regular-season losses with an overtime Big East Tournament Semis victory that officially ended the conference rivalry and seemed to prove that this SU team still had a spark in them.
Syracuse 81 - Montana 34: I know, it wasn't the most impressive or exciting win, but how often do you get to see a Syracuse basketball team be absolutely dominant and neck-stomping from start to finish in a high-pressure situation?
Syracuse 61 - Indiana 50: All week SU fans heard about Indiana had all the weapons to break the zone. Everyone seemed to be assuming Indiana was going to win and very few national writers even took the time to notice Syracuse was still around. They noticed after this one when the 2-3 Zone made fools of Tom Crean and his Hoosiers.
Syracuse 55 - Marquette 39: This win exorcised a whole lot of demons. First and foremost, it got Syracuse back to the Final Four for the first time in a decade. Second, it avenged a loss to Marquette earlier in the year. Third, it avenged an NCAA Tournament loss to Marquette a few years back. Finally, it proved the 2-3 Zone was in peak form and this Syracuse team had put it all together at the perfect time.
Michigan 61 - Syracuse 56: It's usually hard to make the case for a loss as the best game of a season, but, I suppose, if you want to consider Syracuse playing in a Final Four game the best game by default, there's something to it. The game itself was competitive and the Orange had their chances. If only...
Below you'll find a poll to cast your vote in. Cast it. Then, in the comments, provide some commentary on your selection. Can be a sentence. Can be a couple sentences. Can be a paragraph or two.
We'll close voting in 24 hours and tally up the results. The TNIAAM crew will make their own selection and then we'll combine the results to pick our winner. We'll announce the winner in a post next week that includes some of your comments as well as ours.
And so, it's time to decide who you consider Syracuse's Best Game of 2012-2013.
