You see, it seems that there are four main themes during a Syracuse basketball season. I’m not saying that all four occur every year (though that has happened). I’m saying that by and large, the same things keep happening.
He was the first real "get" by new offensive coordinator George McDonald, who recruited Cooper briefly at Arkansas. That carried over to Syracuse, and the official visit sealed Cooper's decision to commit to the Orange.
The NBA D-League All-Star Game heads to Houston this month and will feature two former Orange basketball players among some of the best NBA prospects in America. Arinze Onuaku will play for the Futures team and Demetris Nichols will play for the Prospects.
He can play three positions, and Provo said he is most comfortable lining up in a three-point stance. He said he is open to any position the coaches need him to play, as long as he can get on the field and contribute.
Rouse was prepared to attend prep school for a year, Sanfilippo said, until a couple of schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference came recruiting him here at the end. Syracuse University was not one of those schools. And now the Orange, having made a decision that Rouse did not fit into their plans, will learn over the coming seasons whether they made a mistake. Syracuse joins the ACC this fall in football.
"We’re looking to do the same thing night in and night out. We’re looking to play Syracuse basketball," guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas said. "We’re looking to push the tempo, get offensive rebounds, look high-low and run our scheme, so regardless if the team plays faster or slower, we’re still going to do stuff the same way, we still look at it like another game."
The Orange eased the fears of their fan base by avoiding a three-game losing streak with a fairly dominating 16-point win over Notre Dame Monday night. The key? Having a 4-year-old announce your starting lineups.
"This is a very hard decision," said Brown, a 6-foot-3, 251-pound defensive end. "I’m so confused it’s ridiculous."
Freshman of the Night – Jerami Grant, Syracuse Grant averaged only about 12 minutes per game in Syracuse’s nonconference schedule. But with James Southerland and DaJuan Coleman out, he’s played every minute of the past two games. On Monday, facing his brother Jerian, Grant had his best game as a collegiate. He finished with 14 points and six rebounds in Syracuse’s 63-47 win over Notre Dame.
Now that the January All Star Game circuit is in the rear view mirror, we have been able to adjust our Top 200 to reflect what we saw during this games. It is vital to not change player's grades drastically due to their performance in these games, but these games are a great tool for breaking ties and evaluating small school prospects against better competition.
In a battle of brothers, Notre Dame played a poor game against a good team and came away with a double-digit loss.
He went to the places that a lot of the players went to. We were on Marshall Street, hung out down there. Probably went to, not Varsity but Cosmo's. Late night Cosmo's Pizza, sat there for a little bit with one of my other fellow linemen talking to him. He hung in strong. I could tell he was tired from going out late that night but we got him home, got in bed. I think he slept on the couch.
It’s once again time to ask the question we’ve been asking since May, minus about a month or so: what’s the Syracuse attack going to look like in 2013? Who’s going to step up to replace Tim Desko, Tommy Palasek and their combined 87 points of offense? To find the new answer, let’s read way more into some preseason scrimmages than anybody really should, and check out the options, in order of likelihood:
Taking a look at ACC leader Miami’s schedule, the minimum space between its conference games is three days, and on average it’s closer to four. The Hurricanes have games every Sat. or Sun. in conference play, including the ACC’s long-running Sunday night package equivalent to the Big East’s ‘Big Monday’, but never such a short turnaround between games and they’re all televised or available online.
Jerami Grant did not like Jack Cooley's shot attempt and let him know about it.
4 year-old Brendan Caraher introduces the Orange, which is how it should always be.
