Stealing from Gawker here so I can make the most obvious point ever. Though one among us (or I guess formerly among us) clearly doesn't get it.
My roommate from college at SU decided a few years ago that he was going to Georgetown for business school. While I was not thrilled by his choice of graduate school for obvious reasons, I told myself he would be OK. He was a huge SU fan who despised Georgetown. I went to Loyola Maryland for grad school and I went to one game ever - against Georgetown, and I wore a Loyola shirt and SU hat just to be a dick. So this wasn't a big deal.
Early on I should have seen the warning signs. He hung up a Georgetown pennant in his apartment next to a Syracuse pennant. This was worrisome. Then I found out he owned a pear of Georgetown shorts, which he wore to the gym there. I never saw them though, so it was hard to get worked up, but again worrisome.
Then this ...
Posted on his Facebook page this morning were photos of him wearing a "We are Georgetown" shirt, while sitting in the student section at the Hoyas game last night. I was going to post them here, but another friend talked me down from that for fear that he may murder me in a rage. But rest assured I have saved them and will keep them as collateral if he ever does this again.
When approached by text and email today, the once Syracuse fan responded with a variety of "defenses" including:
- A bunch of my friends are going to the game ... what am I supposed to do?
- I can't name two people on that team. I was just hanging out with friends.
- We don't even play each other anymore. The rivalry is done. They will schedule non conference but all that matters now is Duke and other ACC teams
