Like every conference, the ACC hands out its weekly awards every Monday, and this week, an Orange player received a bit of praise. Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis was named Rookie of the Week after scoring 20 points in 37 minutes in a 78-62 victory over then-No. 8 Villanova. The freshman was instrumental in SU's victory, helping key the 20-0 run that brought them back from down 18 points early on. It's Ennis's second time receiving the honor, having also been named ACC Rookie of the Week back on December 2.
Elsewhere in the conference, Notre Dame's Eric Atkins was named Player of the Week after scoring 30 points in an 87-81 overtime win over Canisius. I'm not going to pass too much judgment there, BUT... 87-81 OVERTIME win over Canisius. He's probably a fine choice after his breakout game of the season, despite the inferior opponent. I personally would have gone with either Ennis or fellow Syracuse players Trevor Cooney or C.J. Fair. But oh well. These things don't matter in the long run anyway.
Plenty more hoops news today. Once the coaches get their acts together and that poll goes live, we'll have notes on rankings and reactions.
