Pachall is back on the TCU football team after completing alcohol/drug abuse treatment for his DUI last season. He'll be a senior and will most likely start for TCU next season. With him starting next year, and Trevone Boykin, who took over for Pachall after his arrest, only a sophomore next year, the decision by Zach Allen to go to TCU just got a little more interesting. Zach Allen will basically have to compete with Boykin for the starting job in the 2014 season. Boykin will have had 9 starts under his belt going into 2014 to Allen's zero.
Now, if Allen would have kept his commitment to SU, he would have competed immediately for the starting QB job, despite Loeb being a senior (guy has thrown less than 10 total passes his career with zero starts). Furthermore, no other QB on SU's roster would have had a start either, compared with 2 QB's on TCU's roster.
If Allen knew that Pachall was coming back to TCU, then his decision to go to TCU is very odd (unless the coaches gave him some kind of vote of confidence over Boykin). If he didn't know that Pachall was coming back, I'm sure that Allen is kicking himself a little bit for backing out of Cuse. Anyway, I know this won't change anything or bring Allen back to SU - I just found this interesting.
