Syracuse Football & The Quest For Beef: Week 1 Quest-O-Meter

The Syracuse Orange lost 42-41 to the Northwestern Wildcats this past weekend. With the USC Trojans on the horizon, things aren't looking good when it comes to six wins and the The Quest For Beef. And yet...the team showed enough promise to make many of us feel that, once they get past this week, there are wins-a-plenty for the taking.

And so, the initial 2012 Quest-O-Meter rates the Syracuse Orange right smack dab in the middle...

Now, let's take a look ahead to see how our upcoming opponents did and how likely we are to raise the QOM in the coming weeks...

USC Trojans (1-0): The Trojans may have dropped to No. 2 in the AP Poll but their 49-10 win over Hawaii was as dominant as expected.

Stony Brook Seawolves (1-0): The S'Wolves put a hurting on Central Connecticut St., 49-17. RB Miguel Maysonet garnered 196 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. Marcus Coker gained 76 yards and scored one TD.

Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-0): The Gophs won but it wasn't pretty. It took three overtimes to beat a pretty weak UNLV squad and all-purpose QB MarQuise Gray looked spotty at best.

Pittsburgh Panthers (0-1): The wheels are already off in Pittsburgh as the Panthers received their Big East schaedenfraude in the form of a 31-17 home loss to FCS Youngstown State. We haven't beaten Pitt since 2004 but, if this is what they're up to, things are looking up.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-0): The Knights beat Tulane 24-12 in a "ho-hum" game. The game's outcome was never in doubt but Rutgers has a ways to live up to the hype some have heaped on them.

Connecticut Huskies (1-0): the Huskies beat up on UMass 37-0 in the Minutemen's first-ever game as a member of FBS. The defense is what stood out most for the team and should be the focal point as they proceed.

South Florida Bulls(1-0): The Bulls beat Chattanooga 34-13. It actually happened. I didn't make that up. Even though you never heard anything about it, it really did happen.

Cincinnati Bearcats (0-0): The Bearcats didn't play in Week 1. Instead, they got a chance to see their first opponent, Pitt, in action. I'm sure they're feeling very good right now.

Louisville Cardinals (1-0):The Cardinals beat up on their rivals, Kentucky, to win their season-opener 32-14. Teddy Bridgewater looked solid and they're likely going to live up to the preseason hype.

Missouri Tigers (1-0):The Tigers beat up something called Southeast Louisiana 62-10, which sounds impressive, but, you know...

Temple Owls (1-0): The Owls won the Mayors Cup and beat up on Villanova, 42-10. We'll find out a little bit more about them this weekend when they take on Maryland.
