While some Syracuse fans would like to see certain SU assistant coaches hit the road, they will actually be doing that this week, but for recruiting purposes.
With no game this weekend, the Syracuse Orange coaching staff will need something to keep themselves busy. Rather than take the red zone offense playbook and special teams playbook, burn them and rebuild them from scratch, many of them will spend their week on the recruiting trail, per Dave Rahme.
Some SU coaches will be on the road recruiting this week while others will remain behind to conduct practice. Two of the primary targets left on the staff’s recruiting wish list are New York City prospects – Xaverian High running back Laray Smith and Thomas Jefferson defensive end/outside linebacker Ebenezer Ogundeko. Each has Syracuse among his finalists.
We all know about Ogundeko, who kept saying he was a package deal with SU recruit Augustus Edwards and was about to commit to a school before Clemson gave him a call, opening up his recruitment all over again.
Smith, meanwhile, is no slouch. He's one of the top Class of 2013 recruits in New York and has among his finalists SU, Oregon and Tennessee. He visited SU back in August and hung out with friends Wayne Morgan and Alvin Cornelius.
Meanwhile across the sidelines, Pitt is also in the midst of taking some inventory. Chances are Ray Graham won't be playing, so that's a plus. However the Panthers have proven that the Youngstown St. loss doesn't define them and that game isn't looking as good as it used to for us.
