The Syracuse Orange field hockey team, your favorite Syracuse athletics team right now, just wrapped up a two-game road trip to New Jersey in which they dispatched with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 6-0 on Friday and then beat No. 3 Princeton 2-0 on Sunday.
The victory improves the Orange to 9-0 on the season, the second-best start in program history behind 2008 when Syracuse started 14-0. The loss is Princeton’s first of the season, and combined with Virginia Commonwealth’s loss to Drexel on Sunday, leaves Syracuse and No. 5 Connecticut as the only undefeated teams remaining in the division.
The polls don't come out until Tuesday but the Orange are making a serious case for No. 1 in the nation. For some absurd reason, North Carolina is No. 1 even though SU beat them 1-0 a few weeks back. Now with a win over the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the nation, SU has one of the top RPI in the nation.
Syracuse has also now outscored its opponents 40-6 on the year.
How does this team play with such fire? Such intensity? It's all about the pancakes. How do I know? Because my mom ran into the field hockey team at P.J. Pancakes in Princeton on Saturday and saw it with her own eyes:

Good work, Mom.
Up next for the Orange, a weekend home double-header with Louisville on Saturday and Yale on Sunday.
