Well so much for all that enthusiasm. I'm not sure what Syracuse Orange coaches and John Raymon were all optomistic about because the Iowa Hawkeyes transfer's waiver to play in 2012 was denied by the NCAA according to Dave Rahme.
The Syracuse University football team has finally heard from the NCAA regarding the eligibility of redshirt freshman defensive tackle John Raymon, according to a source close to the program. It has denied Raymon’s application for a waiver granting him immediate eligibility.
At this point, might as well. The defensive line is getting by without him and this way we'll get three full seasons out of him. He joins fellow redshirt freshman Quinta Funderburk on the transfer sideline hangout as the two have a full year to prepare for their Orange debut in 2013.
It was never made entirely clear what Raymon's criteria was for the waiver. Raymon announced early in the 2011 season that he wanted to transfer but didn't officially do so until this summer.
Whatevs. Dude's got big potential and we'll look forward to seeing him a SU uniform for years to come.
