Why is this not a bigger issue in regards to ESPN/Davis?

Credit to kw189 for catching this in the other thread, but this seems pretty major to me. - http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/bestoftv/2011/12/02/exp-espns-vince-doria-on-reliable-sources.cnn#/video/bestoftv/2011/12/02/exp-espns-vince-doria-on-reliable-sources.cnn

Vince Doria claims in an interview with CNN that the reason they put Davis in touch with Tomaselli was to get his opinion on whether or not Tomaselli was telling the truth in regards to things like the inside of the Fines' house. From ESPN's recent followup with Davis after Tomaselli accused him of coaching him on how to lie, here's what he said:

He kept changing his story with me. He couldn't name the players, couldn't describe the house. I said, 'You just need to call the police.' I called back and asked him if he called the police and he said, 'no one answered.' I said, 'no one answered?'

"...in the short time we spoke what he said is not like anything I know of Bernie.

Isn't this pretty freaking major? I understand Davis not wanting to question anyone himself, but ESPN wanted his take on Tomaselli's descriptions and he said he couldn't name any, why would they continue pushing Tomaselli? Or was that not the answer Davis gave them? In my opinion, this is VERY incriminating of someone- either ESPN or Davis. It is pretty clear those two entities need to be separated in order to achieve any kind of a credible story at this point.

Am I missing something here?
