Syracuse Vs. UConn: Flat Top Your Dome
Cuse fan Tom Colling of Partners + Napier wrote in with a very special idea for Saturday's Syracuse Orange vs. Connecticut Huskies game. Read below for this idea and how to participate:
Since announcing his reclassification to the class of 2012 last week, the legend of Nerlens Noel has spread like wildfire across the SU Hill.
Some say he can block a shot with his mind. Others say a drop of his sweat could power the city of Syracuse for weeks. One teammate even claims to have witnessed him eat a cheerleader.
No matter the case, one thing is for certain. This Saturday, a beast will be upon us. Scouts are drooling over the Number 1-ranked recruit, crediting his dominance to traits like "freakish athleticism," "uncanny defensive instincts," and "incredible mobility and agility." But both you and I know the true source of his unbridled defensive devastation.
The High Top Fade.
Joining Brandon Jennings and Tiquan Underwood as founders of the "new school" HTF movement, Noel sports a caliber of the hairdo not witnessed since the likes of HTF legends Bobby Brown, Kenny Walker, and the godfather of the HTF, Kid ‘N Play’s Christopher "Kid" Reid. In fact, last month Noel reportedly went for a trim, and the clippings are currently projected to go 3rd overall in the 2012 NBA draft.
This Saturday, that very same high top fade will be sitting courtside at the Carrier Dome, watching the number two-ranked Orange take on the loathed UConn Huskies.
We see no better way to make him feel welcome than with a student section full of HTF swag – which is why we’re declaring February 11, 2012 Nerlens Noel High Top Fade Day. Now, you too can sport your very own Nerlens Noel HTF. Simply follow the steps below.
- Print This PDF.
- Cut along dotted lines.
- Staple paper strip to high top fade (attach extra strip for bigger domes)
- Wrap paper strip around head.
- Watch John Calipari cry.

i want
this kid to feel like a rockstar. all of the Nunes readers out there who will be at the game, do your best to make him feel at home!
So he ate a cheerleader? How does that make him different than 90% of all the guys going to college?

Sophomore at SU
I’ve done my part in spreading this like wildfire over social media to all current SU students

IS there anyone
besides me who thinks putting a bunch of HTFs on “our” heads (I will not be in attendance) might possibly seem a little weird or be perceived as mocking the kid?
Im with you.
I think it would be better understood if he were a player on the team (such as Adam Morrison and his trademark Mustache). Regardless, I think its more of a joke and I dont see more than a handful of students doing this.

Nah
He’s obviously trying to make a statement with the ‘do. the HTF isn’t exactly easy to maintain, so I think he’d get that it’s a homage, not ridicule.

I dont at all
If everyone is supporting the HTF out of love, I would think Noel would feel that love. Its not like when Anthony Davis plays on the road and everyone mocks his uni-brow. This is a choice Noel has made, he knows he’s going on a recruiting trip where people are going to show nothing but love. I agree with FP, I think in this set of certain circumstances, Noel would appreciate it. I think its a great idea!

Someone who has twitter
should make sure to tweet the dude and let him know what’s going on… and then tweet him again to make sure!
NY's College Team... should be called the Big Orange, not the Big Apple
For those who know more about recruiting than I
Does UCONN potentially being ineligible for the NCAA tournament in 2013 have any impact on Monsieur Noel choosing a school?
Ooo yea that's hot.
Probably not.
UConn does have an offer in to him, but they are way down the list according to people with Nerlens. He does have a bunch of schools listed, but it’s basically down to Kentucky and SU. Personally I think the odds we get him are 70/30 in favor. This isn’t his first visit to the Dome, he was here for midnight madness also.

He said this week
that hes not really feeling UCONN right now.
They already have a 5* C and a 5* PF though. We just have DaJuan coming in at a position that NN might play.

Yes
MCW talking about Noel via syracuse.com
“He’s one of my best friends,” Carter-Williams said. "We’ve been playing AAU ball together since my sophomore year of high school. I just knew him from around. Then, after, we played on the same AAU team. We just hung out with each other all summer and he comes to my house all of the time."
Carter-Williams has spoken to Noel many times about his recruiting process, including playing at SU.
“He knows I want him to come here, definitely,” Carter-Williams said. “But I’m not treating him any differently, to try to convince him to come here. At the end of the day, he’s going to go where he wants.”

Yes but does he know
that I want him to come here too?
I won't be wearing one tof these this weekend.
However, I’m optimistic on Nerlens choosing Syracuse. It would be a huge boost for the program and he’d be the highest ranked prospect Syracuse has recruited, I think.
I’d like to see another combo-guard coming in, too, though.
I've been involved in a number of cults, both as a leader and a follower. You have more fun as a follower. But you make more money as a leader.
I am a Milwaukee Bucks fan AND a Rutgers football fan (cousin played for them)
So Underwood and Jennings were my favorite players on those teams. Naturally this leads me to believe that Noel is a lock to become and Orange… your welcome
A Rutgers football fan?
Those exist? What’s next, unicorns shooting rainbows out their ass?

That picture of Noel
is screaming for a quality big head. Not those really shitty ones the kids keep bringing to the Dome.
even better
1) bighead the picture
2) cut out the face
3) insert “your name here” in big block letters
Now that’ll send a message

Speaking of big heads...
Was there a bobby davis big head in the student section during the georgetown game? I swear I saw one, or maybe it was just some random person that kinda looked like him.

I Think This Is A Great Idea
This shows how much the SU fans support their players. If you get some press to cover it as well so he knows why the fans are doing this, it could help…it couldn’t hurt. Heck, I would love to see the Fab mohawk done by the student section one day also.

Just Imagine the Announcers next year if he comes
Noel and Christmas and Cole(man): holiday jokes galore
Derrick Coleman is not Dejuans father
Triche had an Uncle apparently
CJ Fair, hes just Unfair.
If they return
Apparently 2 Melo’s have played for SU
Dion’s last name is Waiter’s, so he must obviously deliver. Not to mention he was related to scoop Jardine.
Its a smorgasbord for Dickie Simpkins!!!!
Don't forget
Triche had a cousin too (Jason Hart).

What other schools do-
Minutes before tip off, a member of the student body (Otto’s army) walks the stairs
with a print out of the cheers for the day. Single piece of paper, “read it and pass it down.”
These lists usually have 1 or 2 cheers that are game specific.
ie. lap…tops, J..R..can’t…Read.
The cheer for this game should be something like
“We want Nerlens” or the both hands up taking a bow….“nerlens”.
You get the idea.
I will say one thing
Noel’s HTF is the best I’ve seen outside of Kid ‘n Play. But he needs to carve some steps in the top. That would take it from, "OMG, that’s feaking awesome" to “Epic”.
"If I ain't gonna be part of the greatest, I gotta be the greatest myself." Busta Rhymes
I just read
Kenny Walker’s Wikipedia page and it included this gem:
As a publicity stunt, Walker once raced against a horse, and won. On August 14, 1986, at New York’s Monticello Raceway, Walker and harness racehorse “Pugwash” ran against each other over one-sixteenth of a mile in 10.4 seconds. The New York Times wrote, “It is a well-established fact that a fast human can outrace a slow horse, at least if the human is unfettered and the horse is forced to pull a sulky and driver, and the distance isn’t much more than a 100-yard dash.”
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10
Remember
I believe actually chanting his name could be a recruiting violation. ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL VISIT.
On a side note, if anyone saw those poster of Anthony Davis’s wingspan, if you purchased one/sold one, you just committed a fairly major infraction. Hopefully Kentucky gets reprimanded severely for that. :)
