No. 2 Syracuse Orange ( 23-1) vs. No. 12 Georgetown Hoyas (18-4) GameThread
Georgetown Hoyas at Syracuse Orange, Feb 8, 2012 7:00 PM EST
The No. 12 Georgetown Hoyas and No. 2 Syracuse Orange have met many times in the Carrier Dome, but Wednesday night might be the last time they do it as in Big East battle. You can be sure both teams will make it count.
This will be the 87th encounter between the Hoyas and Orange. Syracuse leads the all-time series 47-39 after it picked up a 58-51 victory over Georgetown last season on Feb 26th, 2011 in Washington, DC.
Jason Clark is pacing Georgetown this season with a team-highs of 15.2 points and 1.8 steals per game. The senior guard has shot 56.2 percent from the field in his last two outings. Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims are both vital to the Hoyas' success as well. Thompson is second in the team with a scoring average of 13.7 PPG. Sims had team-highs of 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in the recent win over South Florida. Otto Porter is reeling in a team-high 6.6 RPG.
But what else do you need? It's Syracuse vs. Georgetown. If you can't get up for this one, you're probably a UConn fan.

I see no reason why Syracuse wouldn’t be able to “zone” Kentucky.

I’m usually pretty optimistic, but 7 games is a trend not a blip. Syracuse can’t rebound and can’t shoot 3s.

Thoughts
Some of the best refs all year.
Some of the biggest laziness of the year. They tried harder the notre dame game.
They need to attack the inside the whole half – they only did that for the last 10ish minutes.
Also, put a hand up and actually try to get a damn rebound. They won’t get all of them, sure, but effort is huge in rebounding – I’m not seeing it at all.
by pegs on Feb 8, 2012 7:52 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Refs are letting them play
Which I love. But there were 2 calls I felt they just should have called. Sometimes letting them play goes a little to far.
There was one play
an offensive rebound by Fair where the guy jumped on his back. I was literally jumping up and down, screaming for a foul.

Halftime
Disappointing, yes. Disastrous, no. The board work has been weak, Beyond weak, actually. When a single frosh put rebounds the entire team, they deserve the tongue lashing Jim B is bound to deliver at half time.
Now, the silver lining. 11 offensive rebounds surrendered, 6 second chance points allowed, they’re only down 4. KJ is carrying the offense by himself, and they’re only down 4. They’re getting to the line. They’re getting good shots. They’re forcing turnovers. The formula for a W is in place. They have 20 more minutes to get it done.

The same old, same old weaknesses
If you aren’t rebounding and aren’t shooting with any degree of competence, all the talent in the world isn’t going to help you. This team totally… completely… and entirely lacks a big time scorer/“go to” guy. Our team needs a guy who can bury a few three pointers to turn momentum and keep it.
Ah well, can’t have it all.
http://atlanticcoastconfidential.com/
Against good teams
I don’t care if you can hit three pointers against Tulane and Colgate and Providence. Can you hit them against Georgetown, Louisville, UConn, ND, Marquette, Nova, etc.
http://atlanticcoastconfidential.com/
Really?
3 of 10 shooting. With those looks, Donte Green would have had 18.
http://atlanticcoastconfidential.com/
I suppose
I have been spoiled by the senior seasons of guys like David Johnson, Rautins, G-Mac, etc. But I don’t want any of these guys shooting a 3 to tie it in crunch time.

Yeah, it's starting to be a real question mark if this team can make a deep March run.

Enough of the Dion to NBA talk
I don’t think there is a demand for a 2 guard who can’t shoot, can’t pass, can’t rebound, can’t hit winning shots and can’t hit FT to seal a game. Just saying.
Fab on the other hand. Time to start begging him for 1 more year.

Apparently refs 'gave this game to the Cuse'
Because of the charge Melo drew (a textbook charge)
Not letting the shooter check in (Its the rule, a technicality but the rule)
And the last out-of-bounds call, which was close and not clear either way. Ref was 3 feet away.
All of those calls
Were correct.
Not sure about the offensive foul we got the benefit of at the end, but not gonna apologize for it either. Until Georgetown apologizes for sucking.
never mind
That was what #1 was referring to, wasn’t it
Eh, to be fair
I thought the reach in on CJ at the end of regulation was a bit suspect. I think this was a pretty well officiated game.

I don't know
but although Scoop made a great play at the end he made a lot of bone head plays. Can’t understand with the way Scoop and Waiters were playing, I don’t get why he didn’t take one of them out and put Brandon in.
It's NOT about Brandon...
we all want to win a championship. Well the coach needs to determine what his various combinations can do under pressure… particularly end game pressure. Keeping the scooop & Dion combo on the floor is an attempt to let them earn…. what many think should be their’s; the crunch time go to opportunity. Think about it… if Dion is such a force of nature, we need to get him some experience in the moment; AND unfortunately its DION who needs his hand held, his confidence pumped, his game respected. Coach and the rest of us pretty much know what Brandon can do, and that he will continue to do it no matter what. Its Dion we’d like to see live up to his natural talents… or get the opportunity so there’s no arguement left; hopefully just a H&H Dion. The coach, the team , and the individuals need to experience the reality of pressure end game situations. Scoop’s been there; Scoop’s good with Dion; Brandon’s been there and will be next year; its the good Dion we are trying to find and support.
Yeahbut...
Triche has kinda been suckin out the past few games. Bad ball handling, bad passing, throwing bricks and missing layups. I luv brandon dont get me wrong. I luve the diff combos too…but Triche is in a slump er sumthin…it’s noticeable…at least to me. It’s not just tonight. It’s been a few games now.

He probbly a little pissed
3 yr starter, missing some big minutes…. but I think Coach trusts him enough to know that he wont self destruct…. or possibly Coach is tryng to light his fire. Notice he’s sitting next to coach now, not at the end of the bench.

It’s been fun. Congrats on your win, I guess you found your go to player.

Kris Joseph - 29 pts, 5 reb, 3 stl
Fab Melo – 11 pts, 7 reb, 6 blk
No one else broke double figures. CJ Fair had 9 rebounds…but was 2/10 FG. Waiters was 3/12. Scoop had a quiet 8 ast and a loud 4 TOs.
Thank you, Kris Joseph, for being our go-to player.
Maybe Georgetown
Awoke the Beast in Joseph.
its great to see him have a great game and get the big win and audition for the next level...

The one foul he drew
When he caught the defender reaching in and brought his shot up through the contact. It seems like a simple thing, but that’s an NBA move.

CJ really could have put this game away
He had the looks and he is the perfect guy to break the 2-3 zone. Thought he rushed it a little.
He had an off night
Every shot he took he makes 9 out of 10 times. All those one times just hit at the same time. He’ll bounce back. Only flaw I’ve seen in his game is he’s not the greatest passer, tries to toss it in where it should be a bounce, and has no zip on his passes. If he can get his passing down he will be a zone buster.

Eh sometimes you don't get the rollls.
What concerned me more is ol’ Scoop and Dion forcing shit.
Melo is an animal, if Scoop and Dion don’t turn the ball over he and KuJo will single handedly win us games going forward.
The 'Cuse is in tha house, oh my God oh my God.
Hello boys!
1)Dion is starting to turn into a little punk that pisses me off.
2) Offense was horrible BUT…
3) Kujo FINALLY put a BIG game on his shoulders and brought it home. I will put that in my pipe and smoke it happily.
The 'Cuse is in tha house, oh my God oh my God.
Has Casual Hoya spontaneously combusted yet?
Ahahahaha SUCKERS.
That was the best game I’ve been at in my 4 years here (6 OT Big East tourney was the only BE tourney I haven’t been at since our spring break schedule was different that year). Absolutely awesome tonight. I don’t think I’ve bro-hugged and high fived so many strangers in my life.
I think G’Town missed a lot of shots they normally make, but KJ was the only one doing anything for most of the game, and Fab woke up a little bit over the last 10 minutes or so. And we still won. Absolutely awesome. I’ll remember this one for a long time. .It’s too bad this game wasn’t Saturday with UConn tonight, but whatever. Beating those douches is nice, but let’s celebrate tonight, tomorrow it’s on to the next one.
It’s 9:59. And Georgetown still sucks. Enjoy Conference USA, Hoyas!
I HATE graduation. Not being in the student section blows.
Confused about your 6OT comment, though. Spring break was the week of the BET the year of the 6OT game.

You stay classy, Georgetown!
I mean, Iām hoping that all the cuse student dorms burn down tonight and take thousands with them.
I hope this loss stings them for a long, long time. Assholes.
They’re also complaining about Cuse fans posting over there. You know, because they never come over here and post nonsense and gloat after a win. Morons.
Probably
Laughable that they’re complaining about trolls. Seriously, I laugh my ass off at that. Those douches would’ve been here for the next week if they’d won. Fuck, most people are over there saying “hey, you guys have a good team”, and they’re still acting like babies.
What a shitty fucking blog they have over there. Win or lose, show some class. They have NONE.
That was easy
Booted from Casual Hoya for dancing on their graves. No profanity, nothing. Sour grapes!
No, no, no
Everything is “casual” over there, meaning they don’t take the internet too seriously.
Fucking losers.
