A friend and I are trekking to Storrs tomorrow from New York City for the game. This isn' t my first rodeo up at Storrs; to the contrary, I grew up about 20 minutes from the university and have been to Gampel more times than I'm willing to admit. The problem, though, is that I've never been to Gampel for a game like this.
I am fully anticipating a madhouse tomorrow with people around campus, basically, from 9 A.M. until well past midnight. While traffic getting into Storrs should be my primary concern -- it should be yours if you haven't thought about it yet, or where you're going to park -- my biggest issue right now is this:
- Has anyone thought about a Bold, Brave Men pregame?
Usually I'd just say screw it and go drinking at Ted's or Huskies. However, remembering the Marshall Street scene when Villanova came to town for GameDay and how they walked out of bars covered in beer and spit, I'm not risking that with our agriculturally-stimulated friends from the Nutmeg State. So, does anyone have a plan?
I guess it's possible to do something in a neighboring town, but I'd like to be on campus around 7:00. Consequently, my desire to tip pints with townies in Coventry where people say things like, "Are you in for a big Satur-dee night, buddy?" is somewhat muted. We have a parking pass for one of the garages near Gampel, and I suppose we could drink in there, but I'm just curious as to whether anybody else had other plans.
Anyway, good luck to the Bold, Brave Men. I wish you much success in your stabbing avoidance.
