The Syracuse Basketball Rap Song: Are You The Rapper To Rap It?
If there is any glaring omission from the 2011-2012 Syracuse Orange basketball season, it's the stunning lack of a hip-hop theme song.
2010 had Shut It Down. 2011 had Unfinished Business. At the very least we assumed 2012 would have Unfinished Business Remix (f. Timbaland). But no...nothing. When Rob Murphy left, he took his rap anthems with him (in the case of Unfinished Business, that's fine).
Marshall Street Records would like to change that. The student-run record label has launched a contest to find the best MC Syracuse University has to offer and record their tribute to SU's basketball team.
"But, yo dawg, I don't got no fresh beats."
Don't worry, son, fresh biz-neats have been provided. They've posted a track for this song on YouTube. It's up to you to drop the illest lyrics ya'll can mizz-uster.
An open recording session will be held in hall of languages this Sunday for any lyrical assassins wantin' to drop some skrilla (I don't think that's the correct usage of skrilla). According to the record label, the winning track will be submitted to a music supervisor at ESPN, so there's that.
My submission after the jump.
Song: Ya'll In Da O-Range.
Artist: Onondawga
AAAAAAAAAAWWWW YEAH. Syracuse Basketball in the mother f***in' loud hizzouse! This one's goin' platinum, son, and I don't mean no Hyper Elites!!!
Boeheim's flow, what you know? There we go. Fab Melo.
Where's Mookie Jones? No one knows. Southie's here. Spittin' flow.
C.J.'s Fair, dunks up there. Scoop Jardine, pickin' screenz.
Dion dishin', Triche is sittin', Trevor Cooney redshir-zitten.
MC-Dubz gettin' allowance, KrisJo's three blows up the Loud House.
Word, it's Christmas in February, Baye Keita got crazy eyez like a mercenary.
Yo, why you discussin' Bernie Fine? Plead the fiff, say no crime.
Say the Orange ain't champion-ready? You more wack than Tomaselli.
All I know is Cuse electric. N'awlins-bound, gone get hectic.
Ya'll in da O-Range, now...

Very nicely done. But then I’m no music supervisor at ESPN, so what do I know.

Dude
sweet. almost anything would be better than the unfinished business track, which I assume has been killed with fire at this point?
Shut It Down was awesome. I laugh and smile every time it pops up on my ipod.
We should just keep recycling Shut It Down
but do a yearly remix on the part where they call out the players names….

What?
No shoutout to your own website? Not even a “Word to Troy Nunes” in the sign-off? Oh well, the “going platinum” line makes up for it.
Fly, Eagles, fly...down, down the field!
I'm still new at this
I also need a skit to precede the song and an outro skit to follow.

bahahahahah that's exactly what I thought of, MEGAMAN!
It’s workable, but not really what I imagined.

I don't think there's a real progression, it's just a bunch of 16 bars followed by another movement.
The 'Cuse is in tha house, oh my God oh my God.
Was the open a sample of Nelly Furtado's "I'm like a bird."?
