Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

And the feeling is mutual. Joe is the only one to rank Syraucse first, with the rest of mostly a smattering of 2's and 3's. A few fours, the usual suspects of Gottlieb and Katz. Someone needs to revoke John Gasaway's ballot, though. Not only does he have the Orange fourth, but Ohio State first. How does a team with more losses than SU and UK combine get the top vote?

Can't faulk

Voters for the twos, but four? And agreed on Gasaway. His ballot fails to reflect what’s actually going on on the court right now. Both he and Brennan have Kansas way too high as well.

The big question, as always, is why OSU gets a break when their star goes down, but when we lose Melo for an extended period, we’re not given praise for winning two of three?

I think Lunardi just ranks them the way his bracket analysis tells him to

By the traditional selection committee metrics, we are #1 and it’s not that close. Something like 11-1 vs. RPI top 100; no bad losses; 7-1 road-neutral record, #1 RPI, #8 SoS.

You can argue that RPI sucks as a measure of how good a team is (ex. Colorado State), but if you follow the criteria the committee uses, we’re #1.

True

He does see everything through that “selection comittee” lens, which has its pros and cons.

Speaking of the #1 overall seed, that does have me a bit worried. When was the last time the #1 overall seed won the tournament?

Good

So, it’s not one of those, “the #1 overall seed hasn’t won since 1988” things. I’m less worried now. Thanks.

well, they only started seeding #1s in like 2004.

So, not a real good track record for overall #1s.

Then again, there hasn’t really been a out and out dominant team since Florida other than the 2009 UNC team, which really didn’t come together until March.

It’s mostly a crap shoot and craps probably offers better odds.

thoughts..

i’m thinking (HOPING) that they all submitted their ballots yesterday before word came out that fab was for sure coming back, so i can’t really blame them if that was the case. I’m thinking it has to be it while gottleib is a hater like normal, Katz was a SU supporter before melo went out.

The blurb for Syracuse

Mentions Fab coming back, but you’re right, the actual votes may have been cast before hand. I’ve seen UK in bits an pieces recently and I can honestly say that I’d be glad if they suffered a second round uber-upset come Tourney time. I won’t go so far as to say that I wouldn’t want to play them…but I’d rather not. Davis is a beast on both ends.

Jason King is pretty damn bad, too.

UNC number 2? Are you f*cking kidding me? Didn’t they just lose by 40 to Florida State?!

Yeah

But that was a conference rival in a hostile environment. It’s not like Syracuse that lost at Notre Dame by 9.

It was

UNC doesn’t belong in the Top 10 after that loss, let alone #2

Gasway

I’m wondering if he watches less basketball than Ron Morris……Seriously, Cal ranked?
