He has also joined the class of 2012. Great game for him to visit with 30k plus against UConn. Would be a great unplanned addition to next years class.

Nerlens Noel would be a huge.

All accounts have him pegged as a smart coachable kid. He’s perfect for the SU program and we’d be perfect for him. He would not have the 1 and done pressure of UK; nor the “good ole boys” of UNC on his case. The big thing here would simply be finding his spot with the team, in the zone, in the offense, and in the rotation. And thats one of the most important things to learn on the way to the league.

Could this bee due to fabs academic sitchy?

Maybe SU told Noel Fab will be gone after this year because of academic issues and they will have a spot in 2012.

i thought about this too.

If it is a struggle for Fab to remain eligible, I bet he bolts for the league. You can’t teach 7’0" and he’s proved he is coachable and works hard (at least outside of the classroom). That’s the only way I see SU picking up Noel, otherwise its a very crowded front court. Imagine Fab, Baye, Rakeem, Dajuan, Noel? Might be too much talent for just 2 positions.

Crazy to say that right?

Although I don’t really see how Baye is a reliable option anymore. He’s a true backup.

Anyways, both Dion and Fab are both being pegged to be drafted in the first round on nbadraft.net.

I think Dion should go (that is if he returns to form). But Fab could definitely use another year – yet as you all have pointed out, there could be an academic issue.

That is a lot for two positions, but it's also insurance.

And if they all buy in, you have two potential all-stars down low at all times basically. And Baye wouldn’t have to go against guys he can’t match up with. It wouldn’t be the worst problem in the world to have is what I’m saying.

Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!

Screw it

If he comes, run the bigs lineup Baye and Noel at the top of the zone, fab in the middle, and rakeem and dejuan on the wings. What they lack in athleticism they make up for in sheer height. Plus they won’t need to dribble because they can just keep the ball above their heads, like they did in high school.

by fatmofo55 on Feb 2, 2012 10:39 AM EST up reply actions

plenty of room for big forwards.

We just run 2 centers 20 min each, which is regular for a Center.

Then we get Rak to work on his stamina as a big John wallace type forward, and there is no reason we couldn’t put out a lineup with a Center and two big forwards, followed by a distributer like MCW at point, and one of our sharp shooters on the wing. We would pound the ball in the paint like we rarely have in the past. We’ll be a strong rebounding team. Our perimeter defense won’t be as good, but rebounding blocking and dominance in the paint could easily make up for it.

It would also allow us to throw two very different looks at teams. One with a punishing presence down low, then shift to a small lineup. That would allow JB to create matchup nightmares everywhere.

This scares me only for the fact that 2013 was more realistic

re-classifying to 2012? I guess if he wants. Him and Dejuan in the front court would be scary as hell and I’d love it. Baye would basically become Mookie on the bench if this were to happen, maybe not. But holy hell it worries me about Fab’s status big time. Imagine Noel, Fab, Dejuan in the greatest front court in college basketball history. And thats missing Rak. God we could be loaded!!!! Nerlens come to Cuse!!!!

Since the early 1990's I have not been able to get Mike Hopkins' bloody face out of my brain. I don't remember what game it was but I'll never forget that as my first memory of SU basketball. Mike Hopkins, bloody face, bloody nose, all for the love of Syracuse.

I'd have to think UK will push hard to replace Davis with Noel

And they will reference Davis’ year and how high he’s going to get drafted.

At Cuse, he’d have the potential to be a great player, but he would have a lot more competition than he would at UK

I just see UK pulling out all the stops for him, knowing that Davis will be gone after this year.

Plus we already stole one 2012 big man from them.

I’d put my money on UK. But I would be ecstatic if he decides SU. Won’t hurt to see 34k at the Dome.

The fact that he reclassified

and didn’t immediately go UK like Drummond at UCONN speaks volumes to me.

by fatmofo55 on Feb 2, 2012 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

Drummond was a wrap for UConn ever since he joined AAU squad -CBC

and the only guy who didnt get it was Rick Pitino… but then he likes to recruit the NE because it makes him believe he’s got roots…

Not a fan of this, seems more likely he goes to UK from 2012. We almost need Fab to leave now to get NN I would think.

Based on this article

http://espn.go.com/boston/story/_/id/7531028/top-recruit-nerlens-noel-moves-back-class-2012

He was planning going to the class of 2013 because of an injury. Apparently he feels like he’s ready for the big time, though. All I know is, if he’s coming on the 11th, let’s get a W and a 35K+ crowd to seal the deal. You can never have too much talent.

Seriously

I like Baye a lot – he’s a hard worker, etc, etc – but I’m not gonna shed a tear if he doesn’t get playing time behind Fab, Nerlens, DC, and Rakeem next year. Man, I hope Nerlens comes to Cuse.

by DMF on Feb 2, 2012 11:02 AM EST up reply actions

Hard to see him not going to Kentucky

They will pull out all the stops on this. They will have openings and Calipari is not going to lose this battle. Noel can’t make a decision based on what he thinks will happen at SU and the coaches can’t really speculate out loud to him either. Right now for next season they have Fab, Coleman and Keita all at the center with Rak, J. Grant and CJ Fair on the wings. That is a lot of people. Sure, Fab may be gone, but nobody really knows that right now.

What would be in SU’s favor? Well, if he wants to develop his skills playing against top level competition every day in practice, he will get that in Syracuse. Look how much that helped Fab this year and will help Rak next year.

You reallllly think after this year

Baye is even in consideration for the C position if Noel Comes?

by fatmofo55 on Feb 2, 2012 1:16 PM EST up reply actions

Nerlens is a once in a generation type deal. I love Fab, but getting Nerlens might mean we need Fab to go into the draft, and it may be worth it.

by Dan Lyons on Feb 2, 2012 5:07 PM EST reply actions

Lets not get too Crazy. Fab is OUR Big Bastard

Fab’s doing a great job. We want him to stay and dominate; in March and next year!Hoping he stays, so we can see him grow into his game. Its tough to grow on the road in the NBA. Nerlens Noel has the potential to be a great player for SU. From his perspective… do ya wanna audition as part of the the frosh five Calipari alumni; or learn and mature into a man with Coach Boeheim.
