Syracuse No. 2 In AP, Coaches Polls, No Doi

After dispatching the highly-ranked Georgetown Hoyas and the hated Connecticut Huskies, the Syracuse Orange retained their rightful place as the No. 2 team in all the land.

In the AP Poll, the Orange remain No. 2 once again, receiving the same two No. 1 votes as usual. Three voters put the Orange at No. 3 despite being 25-1, and they would be Cormac Gordon Jason Franchuk and Jon Wilner, all of whom put the Missouri Tigers at No. 2.

In the Coaches Poll, the Orange remained No. 2 behind unanimous choice Kentucky. A quick look at the math shows that SU was the unanimous No. 2 amongst voters, which is nice. They're followed by Missouri, Duke and Kansas. Georgetown moved up to No. 9, Marquette to No. 13, Louisville is No. 18 and Notre Dame is No. 25.

The Orange are yet again No. 1 in the RPI and have the No. 14 toughest SOS in the nation. They're followed by Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State and Kansas.

In the Massey Ratings, Syracuse Is No. 2 behind Kentucky while Sagarin remains dubious, putting the Orange at No. 3 behind Kentucky and Ohio State.

Syracuse is No. 1 in the Colley Matrix, whatever that does for you.

The Orange remain the No. 1 seed in the East in SB Nation's Bracketology and and the No. 1 seed overall in Lunardi's brackets.

It's reputation

You will note that Michigan State beat #3 Ohio State at OSU by ten points and jumped 4 spots in the poll . Duke beats #5 North Carolina on a buzzer beater at UNC and jumps 5 spots. So that means a win over a #5 team is worth more than a win over a #3 team. At least when you are talking about Duke and North Carolina. Go figure.

Ohio State

could have 10 losses and still be ranked in the top 5.

I don’t understand all the Ohio State love

Is this your homework, Larry?

Because

the Big 10 is by far the best conference right now. OSU has 4 losses, one to Kansas without Sullinger, one at Indiana, one at Illinois when Brandon Paul went bonkers for 43 and Saturday’s to fellow top 10 school MSU. Where should they be ranked? They have wins over Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and a 20 point pasting of Duke. They are a top 10 squad easily. Ohio State is very very good.

Agreed

Big 10 is definitely the best AND most heated conference this year. Kind of makes you wanna join THAT conference. Michigan State is a great team that was on a tear.

Cuse ranking

Has Syracuse ever finished a year where they’ve been in the top 5 every single week? This year’s squad started at 5 got to 1, fell to 3/4 and is now at 2. Any of those teams in the 80s do that?

What the hell does ND have to do to move up?

Seriously. I know they got off to a slow start, but they’re on a 6-game win streak, including wins over us, Marq, @UConn, @WVU, @Hall. They’re 9-3 in the conference.

Shut up brain or I'll stab you with a Q-tip

Agreed

They just moved into the rankings for the first time this week

They are coming from a long way down though.

I kind of like slow moving rankings. It’d be crazy if teams jumped around any more than they already do.

Didn't Ohio State lose again this week?

Rankings confuse me, but whatever, we just need to keep winning. I want that #1 seed in the east

At the rate everything is going

Us, UK and Mizzou would have to completely fall apart to not have a 1 seed. And given the geography, that would put us in the east. The fourth 1 seed has been a hot potato. I don’t think there really is a fourth team deserving of a one seed.

The Big 10

winner is going to be a one seed if it’s MSU or Ohio State. Kentucky, Syracuse, Big 10 winner and then a fourth team. I don’t think Missouri is locked in yet though I think they are very close. They aren’t even the outright Big 12 leader right now. Missouri, Kansas, Duke and North Carolina will all be in the mix late. Right now it’s 8 teams for 4 spots. It is very clear cut for the ones and twos. After these 8 there is a pretty big drop off to 9. Baylor, UNLV, Marquette, Georgetown have no chance of getting a 1 seed.

i wouldnt be surprised

if cuse loses to louisville either tonight or next match up then theyll fall to 7th or 8th in the rankings. i’m sure missouri, duke, kansas, unc, baylor, msu, and osu will all move in front of us. and for shits and giggles im also going to say creighton, sdsu, st marys, and harvard will also slide in front of us.

Hyperbolic, but good point, how would a loss tonight affect our ranking?

Especially because we don’t play again to avenge it for another week, and not against a good team.

I think we get a little leeway because it’s against a ranked opponent, who has our number historically, who is on a win streak, at their stadium, and we’re coming off a “hell week”. But also I think we don’t get leeway because we are SU. Not Duke, UNC, UK, or OSU.

I think Missouri and Kansas might get a spot over us, but it seems a real stretch to give it to UNC or Duke, who would both also have 2 losses, and notable ones. OSU I think has fallen out of favor, and Mich State has 3 losses, so I don’t think they’d move ahead of us.

But the only thing that matters is the 1 seed in the tournament. And I don’t think a loss tonight affects that. This is about revenge, and finally showing up to kick Lville in the balls.

That's just being silly.

A loss at Lousiville should knock us all the way down to third (if that). Hopefuly, we’ll never find out.

Since Cormac Gordon bumped us back up to #3 in his poll,

does that me my home is now back in the empire? Or do I have to continue to lay low? lol

Go Cuse!
....And Georgetown still sucks!
