Jim Boeheim Lawsuit: Judge Denies Request To Name Players Over Laurie Fine Allegations
Are we even still talking about Bernie Fine anymore? No, pretty sure we're talking about everyone EXCEPT Bernie Fine.
For example...
Friday, a judge denied a request from Bobby Davis and Mike Lang's lawyers, Gloria Allred and Mariann Wang, to make Syracuse University turn over information related to former basketball players who may or may not have slept with Laurie Fine during Jim Boeheim's time as head coach of the Syracuse Orange basketball team.
The judge said the information Wang sought was not relevant to a request from SU and coach Jim Boeheim for a change of venue.
The lawyers were attempting to get the venue of the lawsuit moved from Onondaga County to New York City. While Lang & Davis' lawyer continued to argue that many judges in Onondaga County would have an "unconscious" bias based of relatives or associates related to SU, a lawyer for SU said that a move to NYC is illogical since no one involved with the case is actually from there.
The judge came correct on the assertion that allegations against Laurie Fine were relevant:
"Let me stop you there...You're not suing Bernie Fine or Laurie Fine. You're suing Boeheim and the university. So let's assume he knew about Mrs. Fine having inappropriate relationships with basketball players. So what?"
The article also notes that the judge mispronounced Boeheim's name, which was either proof that it won't be an issue or a stroke of evil genius. The judge also openly asked if Wang was on a fishing expedition.
It's not over by a long shot but the momentum moves to Boeheim's side.

Wang said many judges in Onondaga County attended SU or have relatives who work there, and that that would put her clients at a disadvantage.
What puts her clients at a disadvantage is that their lawsuit is buillshit.

This will be the case that makes Gloria Allied fall.

This
If she were doing the case based on principle, she’d ride it to the bitter end, fighting as hard as possible. But she’s not. She’s doing it to make some quick money by dragging people through the mud and hoping that they won’t want to engage in a long, public fight to defend their reputation.
As soon as it looks like this isn’t going to be a giant payday, she’s gone.

She cant
She would be sanctioned for dropping them as a client without sine extenuating circumstance and even then she needs the courts permission to withdraw.

they will argue that since the judge mispronounced Boeheim's name the verdict is not valid.

This is such hogwash
“The slander suit was filed in New York City on the stated grounds that the cause of action occurred there — apparently because Boeheim’s comments were reported in the media there.”
So apparently this action is properly venued in Bristol, Connecticut, then? I’d hate to have to be making these arguments.
I'm getting ready to change my birthplace to Syracuse.
Great news
The idea of players sleeping with Laurie Fine has nothing to do with the case. (That said, I’m sure Allred had to know that going in.)
Now, all we need is for the case to get tossed.
By the way, do we know anything about the Fine investigation and if he’ll be charged with anything? I know the feds want to be thorough, but it’s been rather quiet on that front.
