This Day in 'Cuse History - February 10, 2010
We've done quite a bit of traveling lately so let's go back just two years today. On February 10, 2010, the No. 2 Syracuse Orange defeated the unranked Connecticut Huskies 72-67 in front of 24,847 at the Carrier Dome.
The Orange would improve to 24-1 while the Huskies fell to 14-10. This Orange squad had a lot of talent but wasn't a very deep team.
They usually played seven with Scoop Jardine and Kris Joseph coming off the bench. This game featured Arinze Onuaku with 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Wes Johnson played all 40 minutes with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Rick Jackson scored 15 with 7 boards.
In something that has become familiar, UConn coach Jim Calhoun missed this game on a medical leave. Kemba Walker had 14 points and 6 assists for the Huskies.
The talent was there for this Syracuse Orange team but depth was the problem. When Onuaku went down and DaShonte Riley played, it just wasn't the same. If healthy, this team had a great chance to get to the championship game.
It's all about the Orange!

Kind of the exact same scenario that year as this year
UConn was desperate to keep its season alive, Calhoun was on medical leave, we were ranked near the top, etc. They came here and played us to the last minute, something this year’s team should take note of and be ready for. They looked just as bad that year and had a chance to knock us off. I noticed no mention of the timeout controversy from the end of that game.
I remember this game.
I missed the official visit event for one of my top two grad schools (I visited later) because I would have had to travel during this game and I wasn’t going to miss the my last UConn game as a student. Of course they think I had a presentation the day after…
