National Signing Day, Syracuse Recruiting: Alvin Cornelius Stays In-State
Staten Island wide receiver Alvin Cornelius was perhaps the best offensive player in New York City this year. The only one who seemed to be able to limit his production without utilizing a double or triple team was another Syracuse signee, Wayne Morgan. Cornelius isn't the fastest guy, but has great hands and should be a solid possession receiver for the Orange.
Stats Me: 26 Receptions for 634 yards, 13 TDs, 46 rushes for 272 yards, six interceptions on defense.
Rivals says...two stars.
Scout says...three stars and a position rank of 161.
ESPN says...two stars and a grade of 74. Positional ranking of 177, regional ranking of 193, and state ranking of 11.
Who's Crying?: Syracuse was the only school to pull the trigger, but he receiver early interest from UConn, Miami, Temple, Oregon and Rutgers before committing to SU.
Money Quote: "Syracuse has been looking at me since they first saw a highlight film (of me) and they've been showing me the most interest and love," said the 17-year-old Cornelius..."They told me straight up they're taking one wide receiver (from this recruiting class) and it's going to be me. That was important to me."
Which SU Coach Gets a Bonus?: Marrone is the guy who has been brought up the most in connection with Cornelius. Odds are John Anselmo was also involved.
Fun Fact: Alvin wants to study Architecture at SU. If he can pull that off...holy crap, you guys.
Pass Catching as Performance Art: ESPN has some highlights here.

No way he gets away with studying Architecture.
I can’t believe the coaches even allowed him to think about it. I know someone in my Arch class who was offered a varsity scholarship for track only to have the coach tell them it wouldn’t work if architecture was their choice of major.
Now, maybe football has enough sway and Marrone wants the NY guys enough to allow it, but hot damn will that be hard. I’d love (or more accurately, hate) to see how some of the professors would choose to treat him.
Love that we are getting the NYC guys though. Must be a smart kid too if he can get into the Arch. School.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
No way he does Arch
you can get away with art as long as you take all morning studios and take others in the off season/summer, but Arch is a lot of mandatory studios right in the middle of practice time.
May Doug Marrone bless you and keep you.
Yea.
That was the sticking point according to my co-archie. He said that studio (which cannot be “chosen” like so many other classes) directly conflicted with practice. I think a girl in our class wanted to walk-on to the tennis team but ran into the same problem as well.
