I was told that in some languages, James Washington translates to "he who holds many scholarship offers". I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate, but either way Syracuse is lucky to have this underrated linebacker out of Winter Park, Florida.
Stats Me: As a junior, Washington had 58 tackles, 30 TFLs, 15 sacks and two forced fumbles. I don't have his senior stats in front of me, but I assume they are unable to be calculated by anything less than a supercomputer.
Rivals says...three stars, as per usual.
Scout says...two stars, and the 134th ranked OLB.
ESPN says...three stars, 64th OLB, 272nd in the region, and 91st in Florida.
Who's Crying?: Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, FIU, Illinois, Iowa State, Maryland, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Purdue, South Carolina, Temple, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Washington State, West Virginia
Money Quote: "I got to know the defensive coach and that was really good," Washington said of Coach Daost. "I talked to the head coach [Doug Marrone] and I looked up and researched the program . They really get after the QB and I really like that. They had the top 7 defense in the nation last year."
Which SU Coach Gets a Bonus?: Adkins, Daost and Marrone all get credit on stealing this guy from every other Division 1 program in the world.
Fun Fact: Washington's teammate Bobby Van Warner was also being recruited by Syracuse. Van Warner's parents are SU grads, and may have been a positive influence on Washington ending up in orange.
