Just wondering. There is talk that if Cincinnati won only 6 games, it would be bowl eligible if not enough teams qualified. This is a real potential this year for some reason.
My query is whether Syracuse could go 5-7 and qualify for a bowl under the same circumstances? If we were to get to 5-7, chances are we would beat Temple and be 4-3 in conference. How many teams, not sanctioned, have a conference record above .500 and are excluded from a bowl?
I know the stigma of being a 5-win team in a bowl would suck. But this team could also use the practices and extra game. And nobody played the OOC slate that we did. Had we played an FCS opponent instead of Missouri, that would put us in the same boat as Cincy.
Frankly, with 70ish bowl teams, we should have rolled the dice and scheduled two FCS teams anyway.
