Thanks to a dominant win over the San Diego St. Aztecs, the No. 9 Syracuse Orange are now the No. 8 Syracuse Orange.
The Orange leaped over the Duke Blue Devils on the strength of the victory. The Indiana Hoosiers are still No. 1 and they're followed by Louisville, Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan, NC State and Kansas before we get to SU.
San Diego State just barely stayed in the Top 25 despite the loss and Orange fans will be rooting for the 'Tecs to stay ranked all season long.
In the Coaches Poll, the Orange are also No. 8, leapfrogging Duke. Clearly, no one was impressed by their win over Georgia State. SD State only dropped to No. 23 with the loss.
Other Big East teams in the rankings include Louisville (2/2), Notre Dame (20/21), UConn (23/NR) and Cincy (24/24).
Ron Morris continues to keep Syracuse unranked his poll because of course he does. (And because you're going to ask, Ron has stated that he determines his poll by taking rankings from preseason magazines, combining them with a point system that takes into account the number of returning seniors and other nonsense stats like that and then uses that to determine his rankings, EVEN AFTER THE SEASON BEGINS! It's wonderful.)
